Official Judo Thread VIII

I get where the ijf was coming from too. My estilo is like a pair of pajamas, the eurocomp is straight-up armor.

People at judo always bitched and dudes at jits made me buy my buddy's tatami estilo and will bitch if I wear my eurocomp :D they even got the last month of blue's life before I retired him and THAT sumbitch was sandpaper. I kinda want to get a moskito for the lulz.

haha, I love the heavy gis. It made you tough, like a ww2 vet!

I like my Dom Fight Gear BJJ gi, but I'm starting to feel like a pussy considering that Judo gis are a lot heavier and thicker. I've shopped around, but I haven't found a Judo gi that I like yet. If anyone knows of a good Judo gi that can fit a 6'2'' guy with long arms and legs, let me know. Preferably in black, but beggars can't be choosers.

It's hard to find a gi that fits in length, but isn't a fat boy size.

Where is the "kick your ass" club located?

Don't know if they make any other colors besides blue and white for judo gis. If someone suggests a good one you could always just get a white one and dye it yourself though if you want a different color.

If you have the cash, KuSakura can fit you. The yen is weak right now, you could probably get one for around $US250 plus shipping.

Another option is Toraki Personal Gold, but that is a very heavyweight judogi unless they've updated it lately.

Hoping the snow doesn't spoil my anticipated beating.

A training partner keeps telling me "Tai otoshi is your throw", but goddamn I just don't see it yet. I just don't attempt it much anymore, as I never feel like my kuzushi's right for it in randori. I think I need some noob confidence or something.

Maybe I should go for tai otoshi > ko uchi should the tai o fail.

You will never find a judogi that isn't either white or blue. Also, if you're going to buy a judogi, you should definitely prioritize getting a white gi above a blue, as it's the color you HAVE to have for comps (I'd also buy a blue belt to go with your white belt).

I'd totally rec a Yusho Comp for you, if my body type wasn't shoulders + tree trunk everything.

You should know that judogis are baggier than BJJ gis in general anyway.

Just go for it!

I like to set up a korean style Tai Otoshi by doing a donkey kick/uchimata set up.

Also, start doing a lot of Tai Otoshi on crash pads/ nage komi drills. I stick solely on under hook or Korean style since that's what I hit on randori. Fight like you train or something.

Here's me doing some reps, I video'd it to correct my form and try to improve what I can spot.

I do this drill over and over again. Some times I'll go from lapel grip and switch to Korean stye, I try the classical punch out method but it jams my shoulder up in pain.

Oooo... you're a lefty player too?

Yeah, my coach has taught us a bunch of different styles, including the fake uchi mata into tai o and Korean. I should try working both a bit.

I personally am a big fan of the spinning tai o.

And you're right. I should just fucking go for it cocky noob style.

It's great for lefty because O uchi or Uchimata is right there when going against right lead.

Since i'm short, obvious in the video, I like to get my left grip inside and bait for the taller player to go over, in which case I go for an under hook/armpit grip and do my uchimata to tai o. Although, Uchimata has been working well for me recently.

Tai otoshi with a forearm grip is just filthy. body DROP

Hell ya! I had a 170 lb dude in BJJ get thrown by my Korean Tai otoshi. It whipped him around so fast and landed HARD like in my 1st video I didn't bother going into newaza.

I felt like the Hulk smashing Loki from the Avengers movie! :icon_evil

Hit a sick Waki Gatame today in BJJ. Guy passed my guard and locked up a tea bag Kimura, I span out and turned his own grip into Waki Gatame. Thank you based Kano Jigoro.

My return to the old club went better than expected. Threw/choked/armbarred who I should have in randori, matched well with those I should have....

Then I gassed during newaza randori...hard...

Good time had by all.

My old combo lock was still hanging on a locker after nearly two years!

Definitely trying that tai otoshi once my hand stops hurting.

I saw a set up for it which looked quite nice where they did an ouchi and a big push, paused slightly for them to come back and then went for the tai otoshi.

I see people doing kouchi for tai otoshi all the time and I don't really understand it, surely it just makes the leg you're blocking harder to reach?

Also regarding gis, I think I'm going to need an IJF approved one for late this year. Does anyone have any experience with the 750g gis? I'm thinking of getting the fighting films superstar 750 in blue for the moment and buying the white nearer the time once I need it.

Ugh, one of my gis is starting to stink a bit. First thing I do when I go home is chuck it in the washing machine and that's within 30 minutes to an hour after training,so it shouldn't smell bad, but it does. Not a strong smell, but I'm pretty sure people would notice when training. Is bleach really so bad for the fabric? It'll probably get rid of any nasty stuff.

I think a tiny bit of bleach every once in a while won't kill your gi.

I throw a little bit in with the wash every month or so.

@dyk: Sneaky bastard! I like it. I'm totally stealing that.

I should do a video of the push pull set up for tai otoshi, some guys at the club have been asking me to do one.

The push pull works with either O or Ko uchi, same thing applies. They react to maintain balance, reengage, and come forward a bit. The timing is so hard to do in randori though.

For me, I do the ashi waza to get their feet to stand square, or square enough, and use the upper body to get them to bend forward a little when I'm hitting Tai O.
