People made fun of Trump all the time, to an obnoxious degree even. Idk that its an indicator of performance as much as a sign of the times and how technology has led to meme culture becoming a central aspect of modern political discourse. Obama was also a meme but in his time he was framed more favorably because not quite everyone was online so the terminally online, politically minded folks were disproportionately young and liberal and therefore sympathetic and adulatory towards him. Plus Obama was more charismatic than either Trump and Biden. Especially Biden, Trump isn't a deep thinker at all but he had a kind of instinctual charisma at least. He didn't really to seem to understand what he was saying a lot of the time but he had a great sense for knowing when it annoyed his opposition and when it played well with his base.
