Hi,

I've been reading up on training devices like the o2 trainer and the training mask. From what i've read the science behind the training mask isnt really that great. Are other devices (like the o2 trainer) better or are these all the same? The o2 trainer would be different because you have resistance while breathing in but not while breathing out?

Any people with experience with one of these? Or both? Or some good articles or topics around the products? Thanks in advance!

Neither simulates elevation training, because, neither reduces the partial pressure of oxygen during inspiration. They do cause a hypoxic effect that is useful for some activities that involve breath control (I.e., swimming, surfing, choke defense) and strengthen the intercostal muscles.

Nomilkforsanta gave a good answer above.

Here is the best answer I've seen on the subject by Thomas Kurz.

I've used them, and found no benefit, but as Kurz suggests that's probably because I have a decent aerobic base to begin with.

A lot of pros get paid to use them, and a lot of pros use them (who aren't paid) simply because they will try anything to get an edge, regardless of the science (or lack thereof) behind it.

If you've got the cash I say go for it, you might find they help (even if its placebo effect).

Plus you look like Bane which is an added bonus.

Rather than spending that money do some HIIT ,more beneficial and free

These devices simply train diaphragm strength and relaxation when air intake is compromised.
