For sure.
Not only exciting but it was an all time defining moment.

Cyborg is still unbeaten since Nunes btw

Style-wise, I think Weili would be a terrible matchup for Nunes, but size matters. Nunes would have a massive reach and strength advantage...Could the Zhang Weili from the Tatiana Suarez fight level of skills and physicality win vs Amanda Nunes in your guys opinions? Let's say Weili would fight in a weight that would better accommodate her in terms of maximizing power and not debilitating her movements too much.
No, and of course the lowest weight class those two could possibly fight would be at BW.Could the Zhang Weili from the Tatiana Suarez fight level of skills and physicality win vs Amanda Nunes in your guys opinions? It depends. Some fighters have hand speed so superior to their opponent that it doesn’t matter what punch they select - it’ll always be faster.Yeah, Cyborg thought she could win a firefight against any opponent, found out it wasn't so.
She also found out that roundhouse/hooking punches take longer to get there than straight punches.
Not only that, she got hurt a couple of times and just refused to concede any exchange. It’s like the second fight with TJ and Cody but worse.Agree to disagree but this was an absolutely lackluster fight for me. Cyborg bullrushes Nunes with an all time terrible gameplan and gets dropped in less than a minute? What a waste.
I had no issue with Nunes winning and wasn't really going for either but considering this is still heralded as some legacy defining win for Nunes, I feel like it's a bit misleading and that we really didn't learn that much that we didn't already know.
We knew Nunes had power... I would have greatly preferred if they had a rematch and actually fought for a while but of course, Cyborg was a difficult person to do business with according to Dana so Nunes became the defacto "undisputed WMMA GOAT" apparently despite having a history of gassing out. Whoever does business gets the hype in the UFC.
If someone thinks this was an amazing all time great KO, I can at least understand that but genuine LOL @ the person who said this was the GOAT WMMA fight.
Joanna was a savage. We saw her win and smash people and be a champion, but you also saw her go to war when she was getting lumped up, and still giving it back. People forget, man.1) Zhang-Jedrzejczyk 1
2) Literally any other fight
That gets into why Cyborg should have been strategic- this was the first time she fought someone she couldn't slug with. A firefight was the wrong way to go here, she just doesn't realize that until it's too late. You can see Cyborg trying to land with looping punches when she is getting knocked out in the fight, and the straight punches landing on her as she throws the looping punches. It depends. Some fighters have hand speed so superior to their opponent that it doesn’t matter what punch they select - it’ll always be faster.
But MMA striking is so primitive that this oversimplification works a lot of the time. In reality, it depends on where you are. Up close or at range? Straight punches need more space. But then when you do have enough room to throw them - there’s more range and they exist on the inside of the trajectory of looping punches. Up close, hooks are way faster.
M nes knocked her out with looping punches. TS thanks for posting this today. I watched it dozens of times but not in a while. Love the energy.Yeah, Cyborg thought she could win a firefight against any opponent, found out it wasn't so.
