Now with Jan gone, is Pereira the only LHW BJJ black belt ?

Jan got 2 surgeries for his both arms. He was fighting with Poatan with 2 bad arms and possibly with Ankalaev too.
Basically he had little to no power and no strength.
Let that sink in.

He will be back at end of the year or beginning of 2025.

So you are saying, that the guy with the very impressive 31% knockout ratio, has no more polish power?

Jan ain't gone, he said himself he feels he has many years left.

Why is Jan gone?

That's crazy. I think Pereira must have gotten is black belt even faster than BJ Penn. He must be a prodigy on the ground , or he has some dirt on Glover.
BJ actually went to Brazil and won BJJ tournaments, though. Big difference.

Looks like they're trying the 1997 Vitor Belfort strategy again. "He's a BJJ black belt so you have to stand with him!"

That shit is so absurd.

He might lose to a blue belt with similar physicality. Against a purple for sure.

You mean back when Nogueira's were infamous for giving them out to everyone who came to their gym?
Fuck belts. I've rolled with some blue and purple that would blow your mind. There's also competitive guys that don't train gi much vs grandpa Phil going 2x a week for 15 years.

People assuming strikers aren't "real black belts" just because they're not ground fighters in the UFC is really dumb.

I've rolled with Chute boxe guys and they're "real blackbelts". Alex has been doing Jiu Jitsu for years, so obviously he is either a brown belt or a black belt. It takes 5-8 years to get to that level of consistent training, Alex has been doing BJJ for that long.

Alex losing on the ground to someone in MMA has nothing to do with his jiu jitsu blackbelt.

And Vitor Belfort...is not only a blackbelt but an incredibly high level one. He would dismantle anyone at your gym in his prime unless you went to some big baller Gracie school. Again, him having bad moments on the ground in MMA does not mean he is not a blackbelt in BJJ.

There are levels to blackbelt, competitive grappling, and MMA grappling. Doesn't make any sense to think that striker has a fake black belt because he sucks on the ground. He sucks on the ground because he is not a ground fighter, there are guys who only do BJJ and still suck on the ground in a fight.
