Now That The UFC Has To Have Title Fights Headline PPVs Isn't It Time For More Weight Classes?

No, we need less weight classes and no WMMA. We definitely don't need more.

There has NEVER been a single thread about weight divisions where I didn't see someone suggest a division every ten pounds, and then every single time, I've asked people to justify why a 135'er loses 10 pounds to move a weight class, but someone 195, 200, or even 205 also loses just 10 pounds to change a weight class. It seems so obviously dumb that I don't know how people keep coming up with it, and still they do, and NEVER explain it

Aside from women's atom, Cruiser is the only addition I can understand, but the LHW + HW scene needs a lot more talent to justify it, and probably could use a little restructuring

They don't necessarily need less events, they just need less PPV's, and should have more top 10 fights and especially title eliminators headlining the fight nights, so we get more spotlight on the challengers. PLENTY of names throughout the rankings to justify having like 6-8 fight nights for every PPV

Wouldn't that make things a little easier the way things are set up now? Plus more champs should mean more marketing, more potential stars, aka more money.

You'd have more potential multiple weight champs. And the UFC wouldn’t have to scrape the bottom of the barrel to make title contenders or continue using the utterly ridiculous "BMF" title.
The problem isn't that they don't have enough weight classes, it's that they have multiple title fights per event or are scheduling champions to fight in the same month.

Jones and Edwards both fought in March, so that's going to throw off the September PPV.
Islam hasn't fought since February, so he should have to defend his title before Jones/Edwards.
Volk and Pantoja both fought this month so either of them could've been the headliner for Gathje/Poirier.

If they need a title fight to headline every PPV that means they should only need twelve title fights per year, which only requires six champions (if they're defending twice a year); Featherweight to Heavyweight could cover that requirement, which already leaves five extra champions to fill in for inactive/injured champions.

Get rid of 70. Add 65 and 75. Maybe add 95 and/or 225. I don't care much for wmma but if it's sticking around maybe add atomweight and heavyweight that is 135+ to 165.
The depth of talent is not even across all weight classes, they don't have the numbers to create a 195 and 225 lb division, and doing so would decrease 185-265 lbs' fights per year below Men's Flyweight.

If they added 195 and 225 they'd gut the MW/LHW/HW divisions.

165 and 175 are the only weight classes that wouldn't ruin the adjacent weight classes.

WMMA shouldn't even exist let alone get another division added to it, their numbers are laughably worse than Men's FLW.

Atomweight for WMMA and SuperHW so we can see Lewis vs Chris Barnett for the title - it would legit be awesome.

They'll do BMF belts and demand champions immediately vacate, but won't even consider 165 despite it lying at the intersection between two deep weight classes where a lot top level guys in recent years didn't even get to fight each other.

It's a damn shame that nobody in Dana's inner circle floated the idea to him first because I think that the primary reason that he's so set against it is that the MMA media started advocating for it a few years ago.

I 100% agree

They should add 165 for men and 105 for women

Not only would they have more title fight but also more meaningful main events for Fight Nights

You wanna thin thin divisions out even more and have an even more watered down product to watch. I would think some aggressive scouting and signings for the divisions we already have would likely be a better way to go , there's already enough belts to main event cards.

Only class that would make any sense would be 165 and move WW to 175. There is just so much logic behind it....125, 135, 145, 155, 165, 175, 185.

the weight classes are always bordering on thin to alright so we don't want them any thinner

even the most stacked division right now if you check out the top 20 guys or so you'll see it's not that fucking stacked even

Fuckin, what?

We're not remaking the metric system here, we're making weight classes. Sizes of human beings.
