It could very well be as simple as that.

To be clear, Dana told ESPN that he yanked McGregor from UFC 200 because McGregor wouldn't participate in promotions.

However, the story did not say this is why McGregor retired. Why he called it quits remains unclear, at least publicly.

Dana said he didn't know if McGregor would fight again, and McGregor's camp hadn't talked to ESPN at the time ESPN published the story.

Please read my above post of how they did the exact same thing to Diaz...which was the most anticipated fight of the year. This isn't a first for Dana.
