out of all his loses he has only been defeated by guy who came from wrestling backgrounds except 2 guys one was anderson silva and the other was the only guy to finish him and that was nate marquardt. nates was kind of a fluke and anderson is anderson. otherwise the wrestlers he has faced has just demolished him.
to me this shows an evolution of the wrestlers and that they have shown that take down defense is not only important but being great on the feet is just as important. demian couldve been great if he was tyron and colby etcetc and just used a all around game and only relied on jiu jitsu when it presented itself to him. hes so good on the ground that he just neglected everything.

So you just found out that being a good grappler and striker is better than just being a good grappler? Holy shit, that’s one hell of a discovery...

The guy fought for the title in two weight classes. Not bad for a mainly one dimensional fighter.

At least you threw some random periods there. What a fucking shit writing.

I always say it, high level wrestling negates high level BJJ, if you look to control and be safe its easy for a high level wrestler.

Neglected everything?

You can visibly see an improvement in Maia's other MMA skills especially his wrestling over the years.

Maia is not relevant. Next topic.

He beat some wrestlers too. He ran right through Story and Fitch.

Yep.

Wresling stiffles BJJ and what wrestlers want to do negate a lot of the things a BJJ practioner wants to do.

Just found out wrestling is the best MMA base huh. Only about 25 year after the fact but better late than never.

I had him winning against Munoz and Shields though

ya except that has never been proven and is a popular myth that is repeated.

Looks like you will be on the 30 year plan
People mistakenly think that because so many wrestlers have been at the top of MMA that proves then its the best base. They ignore that MMA attracted in masses more wrestlers than any other discipline as it finally gave them a professional sport outlet and when you have masses more numbers then you will have more at the top.

You look at the striking arts for example and how tiny the representation has been of top guys crossing to MMA in their prime and yet HOW MUCH SUCCESS those few guys have had getting into the top ranks and there simply is no reason to believe that if the striking arts had the same percent of guys in their prime coming to MMA there would not be similar results at the top.

He had a good late-career WW run until Woodley exposed him.
