Social Not so free to speak: Columbia University ‘refusing to help’ identify people for arrest – White House

no fucking idea. But we have all seen plenty of videos from Columbia university where students have engaged in these kind of violations. I'm curious as to why you guys are crying over a terrorist supporter, is it because you support said terrorists yourself ?
And yet we're already tossing him in jail and not informing his family or the public as to what crime he supposedly committed. I believe in due process, and it's unfortunate you clearly do not once it's politically inconvenient?

And what speech at Columbia have you seen that is not protected by the 1A? So strange how you automatically are labeling the guy a terrorist supporter, despite not being able to point me to a single statement he made. You're just going off vibes I guess.

You can protest the war and occupation all you want. But if you incite on college campuses and support Hamas then you get what you deserve. He's not even a US citizen. Can you imagine how uncomfortable this made Jewish students on campus? And this affects Muslims across the US who had nothing to do with this.

And yet the Supreme Court has held that residents are entitled to full constitutional rights and that exceptions to free speech are extraordinarily narrow.

Odd that you are arguing that the man is guilty of incitement despite the government not charging him with that or anything close to it. Once again, what conduct did this person take that fulfills the Brandenburg test?

Israel is disproportionately powerful in the USA and Trump backs them up. I'm sorry to say but that is the truth. And supporting Hamas will do nothing good for you in this country. Hamas is evil.

The First Amendment is not a popularity contest. This is purely on the current administration and its disdain for civil rights.

Cross burnings are protected speech but calling for a ceasefire in Gaza or lobbying accusations at Israel is suddenly beyond the pale for America.

Your proposing punishing thought crime here, because once again you haven't presented me with a single statement from this person supporting Hamas.

If they detained him without reason then yes I'm against that. But let's have the facts come out first.

Seems backwards, no? Tossing someone in jail without being able to articulate why.

Either you believe green card holders have full constitutional rights or they don't. You can't have it both ways like you want.

It's not a good look. I can't deny it. But it's also on the guy for not being a US citizen to begin with, having a family, and still deciding to piss off the most powerful group in America.

I'm just some guy on a karate forum, why is the onus on me to provide evidence as to what he said when I am not the one arresting him. Do you really think they arresting him with zero evidence of a crime ?

He is being deported, not prosecuted and incarcerated. Why should the USA tolerate speech that threatens the lives of their allies ?

You shouldn't be allowed to tolerate threatening speech at all. Who cares even if it is our allies or not? I'm with you though that I'm assuming they must have evidence in order to detain him.

He's a terrorist sympathizer spouting terrorist views. Fuck him. Hope they crack down on all that shit. Get these OBL LARPers off the street.

I'm all for deporting the guy but you sound like a fucking moron. It's like you're overcompensating your MAGAness because you're Canadian.

This isn't Israel. This is squarely on the Trump administration.

And yet you're OK with a man being condemned and no evidence being offered.

Amd yes they're bringing him to an immigration judge, not a criminal court, because they know they can't win a criminal case. So they're hoping to get lucky with a spineless judge and if not juice up his base with a show.

Again, what evidence is there that he threatened the lives of allies? Do you not believe in the First Amendment and want it narrowed? Even in the worst case, "I believe every Israeli should die" is protected speech, no matter how odious.

It's funny how the US' handling of Italian anarchists is considered a blight on the country, yet here we are again.

Are you not familiar with Brandenburg v ohio?

might want to explain it to yourself first, the first amendment doesn't protect all speech
So what did he specifically say that falls into one of these categories?
no fucking idea.

Believing every Israeli should die and then running around convincing the youth of such an idea should absolutely be grounds for deportation. If I said the inverse in Hamas territory I would be executed.

Again, why are you asking me or anyone besides the US government for the evidence ? Do you think every time someone gets arrested all the details are made public the next day ?

It’s fascinating how shamelessly hypocritical right wingers are these days. They just spent years whining about twitter violating their first amendment rights which unfortunately was never protected speech. Now they’re cheering as the government strips funding from a university for not helping punish someone whose speech was actually protected.

Just one more example among many that illustrates how the right has no principles and just wants to get their way all the time. They really seem to hate American and Christian values these days
