Social Not so free to speak: Columbia University ‘refusing to help’ identify people for arrest – White House

It goes out the window when you make threats, which I've been seeing at damn near all of these rallies, let alone this one guy. Fuck them. To Guantanamo they shall go. Get this trash out of your country, and then please come get our terrorist LARPing trash, and send them on a very shitty vacation too.

Fuck all of those motherfuckers.

I will kill you.

Uh oh, thought police will arrest me for threatening you. 👮

What the hell is this, England?

How many people did the protesters kill? I think one old man fell and hit his head, but otherwise the protests have been entirely peaceful.

Point me to the one he violated. They primarily deal with finances. Again, just do yourself the bare minimum to discuss the 1A and actually understand the very few exceptions to protected speech.

Yeah, it's so strange how the first guy they pick out happens to be a foreign born Muslim...so strange. Not like the administration has been known to seek out scapegoats.

If you believe that, more power to you. Just don't ever try to portray yourself as being pro-free speech by US standards. Your views are quite totalitarian according to the US Supreme Court.
I really don't care, Margaret.

When did he become a us citizen ?
Permanent residents are entitled to the full breadth of constitutional protections.
I really don't care, Margaret.
Well at least your consistent in having no north star for your political position. It's just whatever the angry worm in your brain or Trump tells ya.

Still looking for a more definitive answer on the legality of this. But don't ask me to feel bad for people who are pro-Hamas.

As a green card holder he has to keep his nose clean, otherwise the government CAN deport you at their discretion if you break the law.

However what laws were broken, I can't say. But if he is organizing rallies which resulted in property damage or threatening the lives of other students, the he can be held liable and arrested (and deported). But arrested and being deported for his use of free speech sounds terrible, regardless of what he has said, sounds way over the top.

I'm sure there is more to this story, I find it hard to believe there isn't a legitimate reason they have a list of other names ehom they're publicly going after.

Yea pretty much , we will see how it works out in court, I think he was doing more then just protest.

Neocons definitely going out of their way to silence any criticism of Israel. That being said, violence isn't free speech so if dude is a threat he needs to go.

Consequences that don’t break the law. This is not legal and was rightfully blocked by a judge. Unless America is Russia now and trump can do what he wants without a care for anything?

When right-wingers talk about free speech, they're not talking about it in the legal sense. They just want to be in charge of which speech is free.
They don't like it when they say something controversial, people push back and tell them that they're wrong. That's not a violation of free speech, that's literally free speech.

Supporting a terrorist organization, and rallying others to support said terrorist organization.

I wish you guys had human catapults for this shit. Point it to Palestine and see if he makes it. I'd say more about what I'd like to see happen to these pieces of shit, but I'd probably get banned. Fuck. Them. All.

What did he do that constitutes "supporting a terrorist organization, and rallying others to support said terrorist organization"?

And yet the administration has been noticeably silent on details. Almost as if they know they have nothing and are just abusing civil rights to please their base.

My dude, “free speech” protects you and me from the government. The argument you’re referencing is about private consequences, like getting fired or people thinking you’re a dick or whatever.

Except that that saying is in reference to private actors, not the government. This is just lazy even by the standards of sherdog.

It's a really simple issue: Do you think the 1A applies to green card holders and permanent residents or not?

Ya that means a private citizen can punch you in the face if you say dumb shit, then they can face those consequences..

..not the government gets to arrest you for wrong-speak.

me when i can't tell the difference between having a post deleted on twitter and being arrested by the government.
There has always been forms of free speech that have been criminalized, uttering threats, incitement of violence, false advertising, perjury and obscenity like CP. I don't think anyone would argue that these things should be allowed, I have no problem with lumping being a terrorist spokesperson in with these.

Yes, and the Supreme Court has laid out a clear standard for this part of speech. Imminent lawless action

So what did this guy do thay meets that threshold?

So what did he specifically say that falls into one of these categories?

no fucking idea. But we have all seen plenty of videos from Columbia university where students have engaged in these kind of violations. I'm curious as to why you guys are crying over a terrorist supporter, is it because you support said terrorists yourself ?
