I just watched the fight again and I dont really see any loss of energy from Conor in the 2nd round. He was fighting just as he was in R1 right before he got tagged by that 1-2 from Nate. From there on, Conor struggled. This 'energy' nonesense is just that.

Also, was surprised at how much Conor missed in R1. I thought he clearly won that round when I watched the fight last night but seeing it again, he missed a whole hell of a lot.

Round 1 he was winging shots to ko Nate. He was missing and Nate was turning away as the taller fighter to not eat those overhand lefts clean.

The kind of hand speed and power Conor was throwing was amazing. He gassed hard yo. By gassing, people mean he lost the ability to move his feet and head like how he was in the first round and thus became very very hittable.

It was like an overeem fight before he became econoreem

I am

Jesus zapped that energy from him for bad mouthing him

in other words, he started strong but immediately got his ass kicked

typical when a fighter fights someone much better than they are

has nothing to do with energy

Disagree.. From the end of the 1st he was GASSED.

Yes but no... Conor had 0 idea how to pace himself and went out there fully expecting to KO Nate in the first or second.

In the pre-fight build up It was clear he didn't respect Nates toughness and durability and didn't even try to pace himself.

It has everything to do with energy...

That's exactly what happened. I've never been sold on Conor and never will be. He and Ronda are the most one demensional fighters in MMA today. The path to beating them is so clear. And they're not even the best in the world at what they're good at. Both fighters are a case of being at the right places at the right time until they found themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It's time for Conor to pay the piper and lose to Edgar now.

Naw man he was gassed. And in the post he was breathing SUPER HEAVY like those checks he only cares about ;)

However he might of had a broken nose.. lmfao

I was thinking Conor was wasting a lot of energy watching the fight live, throwing bombs and wheel kicks that weren't connecting. It's not the reason he lost, but it's worth noting as a gameplan/fight IQ error. Especially in a five round fight with a Diaz brother.

So basically he made a rookie mistake and paid for it? A young Vitor Belfort like mistake? Therefore we should just excuse the fact that he got his ass handed to him?

Wait...are you saying that when people overexert themselves that they don't get tired?

I've actually always thought that! But this thread really helped me to put it into words...

All Conor has is the left hand and when he fights guys that can eat his shot he's in trouble, trust me.

No, but thats what i was thinking too. There really wasnt any change in his pace or approach until he got tagged. Then his paced slowed down, then he looked 'gassed' meaning he didnt really punch himself out, he got punched out. He threw just as many kicks/punches etc in the 2nd as he did the first. Nate was tagging him and he was out on his feet, thats when he went for takedown. This loss of energy is just an excuse, he got rocked, plain and simple, he just doesnt want to admit it.

It was a rookie mistake... But who said it was an excuse? Conor lost fair and square you dipshit. But with adjustments going forward, he can easily learn and improve from this fight

Steaks for breakfast, steaks for brunch, stakes for dinner, full fight camp, barely any weight-cut = no energy

Just watched the fight for second time, you can see it on Youtube it has Spanish commentary though. Conor was destroying Diaz and can't believe Conor lost this fight.

Conor's cardio absolutely sucks as bad as his ground game does. His left hand is a can of spam and his kicks are for show. Against midgets he does well. But I can't wait to see how he's gonna make it back to 145 now that he bulked up. And rehydrating after the IV ban should be another factor to think about. And the fact that Edgar is next in line and tailor made to beat him. It's a bad time to be a McGregor fan.

Posted in a different thread about this. Nate got his jab working immediately, then @ 3 minute mark first round he found his sweet spot for that short hook. He was tagging McGregor with that, countering nonstop and the toll started at that point.

Then @ 3:45 of Rd 2 he had McGregor's style downloaded and his defensive boxing kicked in. It wasn't even the 1-2 that did Connor in to begin with, Nate was sticking him when he set for that lead uppercut and catching him clean. Watch @ 2:52 of the 2nd, that's when it really began. And the 1-2 came off the same timing when Connor set his feet to jump in again-- hands low signaling another uppercut. Nate boxed him up and sapped his energy by countering, work rate, defense, and being better at the Sweet Science.

That being said, McGregor's great for taking challenges most wouldn't.
