Not unheard of. A stay pending an appeal is pretty normal. Its not quite the same, but its comparable to the recent stay on certain deportations that had conservatives in a tizzy. Basically, don't do x/you don't have to do x until this is done being litigated.

It's just a stay, so we'll see what happens. But, if gerrymandering wins out, people need to be really worried. An increasingly isolated, and far right Republican Party in power with the ability to stay in despite the democratic will of the people is certainly dangerous. I hope it doesn't go that way, but this is a huge deal.
