North Carolina, a voting rights hellhole.

are these lines drawn more along race or class

b/c I presume there's also mad low earning whites in NC, so just curious exactly how the boundaries were formed?

What is wrong with their voter ID proposal? Why shouldn't one be required to show id?

The previous ones were drawn explicitly on race.

The current ones were drawn by looking at voting records and party registration, and then calculating the district layout that would result in the smallest possible number of Dems. The consultant who drew the map testified about the specific instructions that he was given.

NC votes are pretty close to 50-50, with the edge bouncing between parties in different years, but consistently elect three times as many Republicans as Democrats in elections affected by gerrymandering. Seriously. Compare votes cast to representation. And it's not a matter of rural v urban or population concentration: as shown by the map, even areas with concentrated ds get broken apart to reduce their representative power.

I wish @TheStruggle was here to remind us of how many seats the republicans gained since 2010 while conveniently ignoring how that coincided with project REDMAP and the unconstitutional gerrymandering that is being challenged here.
He'd be here to explain why its actually a good idea for blacks and Latinos to be excluded from districts

its almost like they made 0 attempts to even hide it. check out that little arm on district 10, reaching out and grabbing asheville.

District 12 looks like everyone who lives in a van on the bank of the river.

What's the most important right in a free society then?

The right to choose your means of self defense. It's the right, from which all your other rights are derived.

Remember the saying, the pen is mightier than the sword? Well that's only the case because the guy (or gal) with the pen has the swords to back it up. To keep it pithy, you have three ways to exercise your rights in a "free society"; The ballot box, the soap box, and then if all else fails, the ammo box (the most fundamental).

Also you don't have a right to voice how other people's resources, which they're compelled to hand over, are spent... just because you're alive. That's an absurd claim to a right.

You have to say that in a mocking e-tone, because you know that's exactly right. The idea that something like that got turned into a partisan issue is absolute horseshit.

I say it in a mocking e-tone because i think its a dumb answer, and very perdictable.

I would argue due process is more important, as otherwise you can be stripped of your right to firearms.

Right to vote is the most fundamental, critically important part of a free society.

No it's not.

So after having their Voter ID laws struck down, NC just had their district maps struck down for gerrymandering.

The NC GOP was responsible for both of these initiatives and they have been repudiated both times. At this point, I think every sane person will have to acknowledge that some people (of which the NC GOP is probably just the most blatant example) are trying to systematically destroy the right to vote.

It circles back to a fair criticism of the weakening of the Voter Rights Act by the S.Ct. The right to vote and the democratic process is something that requires constant protection from those who seek to undermine the will of the people.

I support systematically destroying the right to vote and I am completely sane.

Also lol at "the will of the people", as if the mob has ever led to anything good.
