North Carolina, a voting rights hellhole.

The only reason the RepubliCANS have won any national election over the last 25 years has been gerrymandering.

If both of these attempts failed I think it shows we are actually protecting voting rights. They made it VERY clear you don't need to show any ID to vote while waiting in line last election.
I'm left wondering if there are less egregious examples of gerrymandering and voter suppression that are harder to challenge by virtue of being less egregious but were designed and fulfill the same purpose as the ones mentioned in the OP.

its almost like they made 0 attempts to even hide it. check out that little arm on district 10, reaching out and grabbing asheville.

I like district 4

hunger games reference? no?

is there a reason why we dont just put voting districts on a grid? try to include comparative pop. sizes while keeping them looking like actual shapes?

No, look at 4 in the middle.

We dont do thqt because the party tgat does this the most would be utterly crippled

And for the record, gerrymandering has always been a problem, but it's been kicked up several notches with the advent of computerized voter diagnostics and algorithms.

It's a real problem when a state like Wisconsin, which is basically a 50/50 state, can be completely controlled at every level by one party for a decade.

I wish @TheStruggle was here to remind us of how many seats the republicans gained since 2010 while conveniently ignoring how that coincided with project REDMAP and the unconstitutional gerrymandering that is being challenged here.

Probably. NC really pushed the edge with their choices but states legislatures have such wide discretion that lesser changes probably don't trigger litigation.

Look at fuckin' 3!!!!! Is that thin line all the way on the right even fully connected???

8 took away the middle of 9.

lol.

Lol the line on the right of 3 is the outerbanks. Its a long line of islands. The white space is the atlantic ocean

Natural boundaries.

Rivers, mountains, etc

hhmmm I guess that actually would make sense for one district to manage the entire coast from that perspective. wonder if that's how other states are doing that...

except for that tiny little inlet bay... district 1 can manage that. hahaha

Right to vote is the most fundamental, critically important part of a free society. It amazes me how little outrage voter suppression gets sometimes. Slightest hint of a challenge to the 2nd amendment? Let's burn this mother down. Rob people of their vote? Ehhhhh no biggie.

In regards to gerrymandering it seems to be a tedious and administrative exercise. Drawing district lines is not a "sexy" endeavor and probably goes unnoticed. So you don't realize gerrymandering is going on until you've been gerrymandered.

I will never understand the rationale behind purging voter rolls.

Theoretically I don't really have a problem with Voter ID laws as long as any state/federal Id (Drivers License/Passport) is allowed and the IDs are free and easily accessible and their is ample time for people to get one. But you had some states making it a specific ID, making it administratively somewhat difficult to get one and trying to put the law in place a month or 2 out from the election.

The rational is whatever it needs to be at the time.... because the purpose is to simply curtail voting.
I can vote by mail without any ID here in Oregon. It's great. But gerrymandering can strike anywhere and we have problems with it too. The county I used to live in, which i've seen referred to in AP articles as a "liberal stronghold", has had a permanent conservative county board since the last redraw. They had several independent/voter suggested map options, rejected everything last minute and went with one that created a permanent majority for themselves in an area that hasnt voted red for 40 years. Made me want to puke.
