Modafinil is getting a lot of buzz in the BJJ community after being featured in the Joe Rogan podcast, but is anyone using OTC nootropics such as the -racetams to up your BJJ game? CILTeP? Rhodiola rosea? Ashwagandha? Catuaba extract?

Whatever happened to a good night's sleep and a healthy diet? *shakes head*

I tried Alpha Brain when going through finals a couple of years ago, I didn't feel any gains in alertness, focus or anything like that while working.

What I did notice was that I slept *a lot* better. I was having super deep, vivid dreams, dealing with my studies, not the normal abstract everyday stuff, and I remembered everything clearly when I got up. I also slept until my alarm rang every morning. I would wake up with a jolt, like from a bad dream, and not feel drowsy.

I was able to do with less sleep since I was sleeping much better (I am usually a light sleeper). However, I had what I suspected was an allergic reaction so I stopped after a month or so. My roommate tried it around the same time and felt no effects whatsoever.

modafinil is a prescription stimulant drug, like most add stimulants it can make you anorexic and in the zone, as a day in day out thing it is a no go IMO for a few reasons mainly anorexia, some dr's say it increases heart rate and some say no and possible cardio hit, it might help you get some homework done or study some bjj tapes but making you a better mma or bjj athlete I don't see it. I have taken all the main stimulants out there for a test drive as well as nootropics.

CILTeP is regarded by biochem experts I trust as horseshit, its a stack designed by a dude from longecity where people post of profound experiences with fish oil, lots of wack jobs. I am quite certain anyone claiming anything big from a ciltep stack is either a bullshit artist or a nice guy exhibiting a placebo effect, either way its a waste of time.

Rhodiola rosea is a high quality adaptogen herb, it boosts dopamine, is good for aiding stress and depression and just good to dose a few times a month during the day when stressed. One of the few supplements out there that actually does something.

Ashwagandha is another high quality adoptogen. Felt calm and focused with it but I also take it in combo with other things like b12.

Adaptogenic herbs, multis, b vitamins, creatine, protein, fish oil, magnesium, vit d, melatonin, probiotics are all good for physical & mental health and sure could possibly aid bjj.

funny....that's exactly what comes to mind when i think of rogan's alpha brain "nootropics"

I'm not talking about nootropics that specifically sponsor Joe Rogan's podcast. I seriously doubt anyone with a shred of common sense would purchase a product like Alpha Brain which refuses to list the dosage of their own ingredients.

Yeah, a friend of mine let me have his bottle of CILTEP after not experiencing anything with it. I took it for a few days, and didn't really notice anything.

Have you tried any of the racetams?

I can't say I've ever heard of significant weight loss and anorexia as a side effect of Modafinil. Was that just your personal experience?

Good diet, dark bedroom, melatonin when you need it, DMT once or twice a year to clear out the cobwebs.

Rhodiola Rosea is a herbal supplement and labeled as an adaptogen. I used it for like a year when I first started BJJ and I liked it. You can get it pretty cheap from bodybuilding.com

I also used to take piracetam 1600mg a day but I stopped since then because it's pretty expensive.

Reddit has a really good nootropic subreddit that you may want to check out. www.reddit.com/r/nootropics

Ive heard about modafinil but I havent looked into it yet.

I take Modafinil and train Jiu Jitsu. I think it personally is a wonder supplement to take alongside training. However due to work schedule and modafinil having a 15 hour half life, I rarely take it for training being that I train in the evenings.

And yes, modafinil is appetite suppressant but it isn't going to make you anorexic.

Piracetam definitely isn't expensive man, you can buy 1000g for like 70 bucks. Where were you buying?

How was your experience with it though? I'm going to order small-ish doses of a couple I want to try today.

I'm broke.

I think I used to get it from Amazon before they took it off. I used it to supplement my cognition for nursing school. I think it really helped. I definitely noticed an improvement in memory and studying.

I know that it's recommended to take choline with piracetam as well. You can get supplements or just get it from eggs. I ended up just having eggs and a protein shake for breakfast every day with it and it worked fine.

And no electronics an hour before bedtime. Screens will screw up your sleep for real.

I used to be able to use Rhodiola Rosea, but then it started making me more aggressive and prone to stress. I might have reacted badly to this one particular batch, but I've not used it since.

I've known about it for a few years, didn't have anything to do with Rogan.

That's subjective. I can't sleep without the tv on, I like noise and a little light while I doze.
