Nobody in LW has top level TDD

Something I've noticed. Look at the top 10 in LW.

McGregor
Ferguson
Khabib
Alvarez
Barboza
Poirier
Gaethje
Lee
Diaz
Chiesa

Out of them how many are truly elite in the defensive aspect of wrestling? I'm discounting Khabib because he's the only one there who is really a wrestler.

Maybe at a stretch Alvarez?

You got guys like Ferguson who has fantastic wrestling pedigree and brilliant scrambles but for some reason actually doesn't give a crap about TDD.

Compare and contrast to every other division:

HW: Stipe, JDS, Overeem
LHW: Jones, Cormier, Gus
MW: Romero, Whittaker, (Rockhold/Weidman when they are not pissing about)
WW: Woodley, GSP, Robbie Lawler
LW: Khabib
FW: Frankie Edgar, Aldo, Ortega?? (Correct me if wrong fella's, not seem anyone try wrestlefuck Ortega)
BW: Dom Cruz, TJ Dilashaw, Cody Garbrandt
FLW: Mighty Mouse, Cejudo, Jo Ben

What do you think? Is LW the unique division in the sense that its the only one where in the top echelons there is only one real world class wrestler? And no world class TDD guys?

I'm not sure I agree with your assessment. Barboza, for example, has excellent takedown defense. I don't think you can label everyone that Khabib ragdolls as having poor TDD. He's just that good at getting people to the mat.

I kind of see it like JDS. If you only saw his fights against Cain where he got taken down about 400 times you'd think his TDD sucked. But in reality he had excellent TDD.

I haven't seen all of Lee and Alvarez's fights, but why do you think they don't have great TDD? Was there a fight where someone took them down or outwrestled them?

Lol what. Khabib is Khabib....no one can keep him off them let alone take him down.

JG, Ferg, and Lee are very good wrestlers JG might get taken down because he wants to stand and bang but he's not getting held down very often. Ferg doesn't fight the TDs much because he doesn't mind elbowing from bottom

Barboza has some really solid TDD and I'm pretty sure gaethje is an accomplished wrestler using it to sprawl and brawl.

I disagree Barboza has top level TDD.

Top level TDD is like Jones/Cormier/Aldo level.

It's confusing because like I said, TFerg has brilliant wrestling pedigree as does JG but both always end of planted onto their backs multiple times a fight. I mean IIRC Ferguson was doing iminari roles vs Barboza once he got taken down.

Out of the people who do have the best TDD in LW, the Alvarez/Ferguson/Barboza's etc, they still dont stack up with the best from other divisions.

I’ve always said it, but Chad Mendes would be very successful at LW. Some of the greatest TDD in mma history, and he’d out strike most of the top LWs.

I believe Justin was a NCAA dv 1 all american at Northern Colorado. He doesn't care if he gets taken down because he can get right back up to his feet.

Barboza has developed very good tdd at 83% defended. I believe that's at the top of the division around 4th best. That's why I always laugh when Sherdogers proclaim that his tdd sucks, he is very good actually.

Alvarez is at 92% defended, so I don't see how he has bad tdd.

Everyone else TS mentioned is below 78% or worse, even Kevin Lee. Lee only has 73% tdd, which is the exact same as Conor. Of course all of Conor's fights except one fight was at a weight division below.
