No More Mr. Potato Head

You said "Irritating roughly 50% of parents is a HORRIBLE strategy for a kids brand". Implying they'd be irritated enough to change their purchasing decision.

I get irritated whenever Amazon misses a delivery, but I still use them. I just become less likely each time and it hurts my perception of them. See the difference?

So you still use the service? Doesn't sound like a terrible business decision then. They have professionals who analyze this kind of shit and are very calculated in the moves they make. Hasbro is a giant for a reason.

Pretty sure the only reason why anyone would even think to buy one of these things for their kids is because of Toy Story

You could always make your Potato Head a Ms. anyways so in reality the toy has always been woke af

I work for a company that is literally 100x the size of Hasbro doing the same thing.

I'm willing to bet they still sell it as Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head when it comes to Toy Story merch. Shit, that's basically the theme of the franchise. The passage of time leaving toys behind, new toys constantly coming out, sometimes rebrands making them obsolete. They sold old school Barbies they haven't sold in years. This isn't a disavowing of the original brand, it's just embracing a new identity going forward.

Sure, marketing toys and marketing tech is practically the same thing.! You're definitely not biased in this particular instance for any ideological reasons or anything. I'm surprised Hasbro didn't reach out to you for your input.

I knew this would happen and I even warned you that you didn't want this smoke. Sorry for not rolling over to your bad and uneducated opinions in my area of expertise.

Also, I worked in kids products for 3 years. It's why I know so much about it.

Is it sad that even before I opened this cot damn thread I knew what you were gonna say? That's how predictable the bullshit is now.

Naw man. It cause me and you are here man.

We becoming one.

Also, this argument is light speed bad. You're literally arguing that Hasbro employees don't ever make mistakes and that they're immune to criticism.

Lmao more like smoke and mirrors. The entirety of your argument was a reassertion that a wildly exaggerated amount of people would be irritated by it enough to affect their profits, using faulty logic, and then backed that up with nothing but your claims of being some giant in the field which you haven't made any real effort to prove. And even if you did, it doesn't mean you are end all be all of marketing. You clearly have some serious feelings about "wokeness" and gender which play a role in what how expect others to feel about it.

Look back. I broke down why keeping all parents happy is especially important for kids products. I'm going to stop replying though. Try to enjoy the rest of your day.

So why do classic toys ever rebrand or branch out?

Did they cancel He-Man yet?
Is there a "Gender Neutral Pronouns and the Masters of the Universe" cartoon in the works?
Can you even say "Masters" anymore?

That's a perfectly valid question and should help you further elaborate why this move is so uniquely bad. Should be simple for such a successful professional in the field like you.

I feel sorry for kids who are growing up these days.

The 80's and 90's time period shits all over this current climate of intrusive social media, cancel culture, and cell phone zombie BS.

In before "okay boomer"

They actually sell the old school figures with modern day joint technology in the stores right now. I never gave a shit about He-Man, but if I did I would have to say it's pretty cool. Old school box and everything, the mounts are pretty badass.

They did do a She-Ra show recently that got a cult following. Not sure if it was a genuinely a good show or not. It looked ultra woke but I hear it had some good writing behind it.

So are we going to see all toys move away from being gender specific?

If so I wonder if the current ones will have any value in the future.

I agree, the constant fear of saying something wrong must be exhausting for kids who should be worried about other things IMO.

Also, ageism ("okay boomer") can be just as discriminatory as racism or sexism but the zoomers seem to give themselves a pass on that one.
