News No More Millions: PFL Cuts Tournament Winner Prize

The UFC might just be the only promotion in MMA that can make money and still give a suitable product.

ONE FC has a more entertaining product but is haemorrhaging money.

Bellator has an inferior product and is haemorrhaging money.

Rizin has a more entertaining product but is at the very least still operating at a loss.

PFL has an inferior product and is haemorrhaging money.

Almost all combat sports promotions are operating at a loss, even ones that payout far more revenue to its athletes like Matchroom Boxing or PBC.

But PFLattor really seems to of shit the bed.

Their entire format has turned out to be a disastrous affair.

The whole season/playoff thing has ensured that every fighter plays it as safe as possible to avoid injury, and the end result has been a non-stop slew of narcolepsy inducing sparring matches. For every dramatic finish, the viewer is subjected to 11 other fights that are as compelling as drying paint.

I want PFL to succeed because I think Dana is doing damage to the sport and fighters with his borderline monopoly, but I don't see it happening.

I think PFL shuts down after this year and joins the scrapheap of other organizations that tried to be UFC Jr.

BKFC took off because it promised something new. PFL stalled because it's offering the same damn thing we get on a weekly basis with the UFC, except PFL neutered the engagement rules both implicitly and explicitly.

Donn Davis is an idiot, basically.

that promotion must have been going in red numbers for years.

Black Friday ppv sales lol couldn't help them get into the black cause I hadn't seen a single ad/promo.

Outside of diehards how are the casual civilians supposed to hear about their events. So many didnt know till you get a highlights clip on ytube.

PFL has numerous problems. One, their production is shit. Two, the events they hold in Europe they don't broadcast for a US audience. Three, there's long gaps between fights. Four, matchmaking doesn't do good enough to create exciting finishes (mismatches). They got tons of problems other than their headscratching financial decisions.

RIP PFL.

Because Sherbros love to see everything and everyone fail. MMA truly has the shittiest fans. Lol
What’ you expect? These are the same fans who revel in Ngannou leaving the UFC getting the “bag.” With all the support. But then don’t do shit when it comes to actually supporting, half of them illegally stream Francis boxing bouts and MMA bouts, as we can all see by the PPV buys. Just a bunch of hypocrites.

Never understood how these other orgs make money. I've never watched a PFL card. Don't even know how or where to watch it. Nobody I know MMA or sports fans watch PFL.

I watched maybe 1 or 2 Bellator cards when they were on.

I'm not sure if it's because UFC is on more now than it was, but I tend to only watch UFC nowadays

I caught the end of the Pride era, then also watched WEC, Strikeforce, EliteXC events regularly. I even watched the Affliction cards.

I watched some Bellator when it was on BBC iPlayer for free, but haven't yet watched a PFL card as you need DAZN in the UK. Maybe if it was on TNT sports that I already pay for to watch UFC like you have it on ESPN over the pond then it might get a bit more traction here.

Worrying how many "MMA fans" are happy and joyous about this. That being said, all the Francis/Jake/Million dollar tournaments was / is all marketing and I think it's backfired on them. Interested to see what 2025 brings.

Agreed and big chunk of diehard fans dont even buy ppvs. Its hard to get casuals to watch and equally as hard to be known at all.

UFC having weekly events is definitely a big reason.

In PFL, you will from now on be a half million dollar champion. Looks like they were tired of guys winning two tournaments and retiring or the Saudi money is drying up.

PFL contracts state that fighters are payed $20k/$20k show in + $500k bonus for winning the tournament.
UFC dying confirmed.

Tourneys no longer for a million? Bright side they can use elbows in the fights.

I think they failed to understand what the fans want and tried to hard to be the next big thing, bigger than the UFC, and reinvente the wheel.

Their tournament is bad. Too many weird rules and points system. They have no clear schedule and their advertising is almost non-existant.

They should just go back to the basics, have simple but good fights, and have an easy schedule to follow. For instance, one card every first Friday of each month. And they should do heavy marketing and promo on YouTube, X, tiktok..., like countdown video, embedded and all.
