No more Mattis soon.

I agree with the US leaving Syria, which is the right move in the long run but reading Trumps tweets on the issue is... surreal to say the least. It's hard to actually comprehend that it's the president of the United States that is showing such an obvious disregard for basic facts and what is going on the ground. Somehow Turkey is going to move hundreds of miles through Syrian territorry to beat the last ISIS remnants close to the border with Iraq, completely disregarding the fact that it's kurds and the archnemesis of Turkey that is controlling all the land before it. Not really calming for the allies, that has shed blood for the US cause in Syria, that are also in Turkeys crosshair. Open shameless betrayal more like it.

Is he greenlighting a turkish invasion of Syria here?
Does he lack even a basic grasp on what actually is going on in Syria, and this tweet made total sense to him personally?
Is he informed, but his tweets are catering to his base, who he obviously believes are completely oblivous? Who is the tweets supposed to be aimed at, is it absolute mouth-breathing morons?

Always the coward. Couldn’t even look at Mattis in the eyes and fire him. I recall during the election everyone who worked for him said the “you’re fired” Trump on The Apprentice was just a bullshit TV move that only his idiotic base believed.

Instead of "You're fired!", he surrounded himself with crooks and said "You're hired!"

Pathetic, really
There is a Cult-of-Trump in the grass-roots , amongst the type of rightwingers who swear by Fox , Breitbart , AM conservative Radio , FreeRepublic etc.. At Breitbart they are ripping Mattis and have done so towards any Trump admin officials who does not do what Trump wants.

The latest military man to state vocal opposition to Trump and question his judgement that was never any good.

"What does this say about the foreign policy of the United States? That we're not reliable? That we make strategic decisions based on no strategic logic? What kind of person is driving the helm? That's the issue,"

If Erdogan blackmailed Trump, I wonder what Erdogan offered to keep quiet about? Did Erdogan tell Trump that he would not release the Kashoggi recordings, other highly incriminating evidence and not pursue MBS in exchange for Trump pulling out of Syria?

That part is speculation; the main thrust is yet another experienced military leader thinks Trump's precipitous unilateral decisions are poorly thought out and show our allies that deals with the United States are written in sand.

When are Breitbart fans, Fox News fans , Mark levin fans, Limbaugh fans going to call Trump a crypto-Muslim cause he is withdrawing the troops and letting Erdogan win this round, cause Erdogan is going to attack the Kurds.

My guess is the anti iran axis will continue. Mattis to me understanding was not on board with that so much. Bolton was rumored to be one of a few who wanted him out. Kushner will probably try and broker some deal with the Russian's and also push for Trump's deal of the 'century' which is rumored to be the confederation option with Gaza going to sinai under egyptian rule and part of sinai becoming part of palestinian state. And for new cities in Jordan to be built to accomodate 1 million plus west bank palestinians. All palestinians will be given jordan citizenship. And Israel will annex all of area C and palestinians (sunni arabs) west of jordan river will be given jordanian citizenship and many will move. As new cities for them will be built in jordan. A corridor maybe be made from jerusalem to jordan.

So is this really why Trump is pulling troops out of Syria?

Blackwater, the controversial US private security firm, has flagged its intent to resume business, taking out a full-page commercial in the latest edition of Recoil magazine with a chilling message declaring “We are coming.”

The resurrection within the military contractors’ market of notorious Blackwater, which, after numerous scandals and several rebrandings, is now known as Academi, has analysts looking deeper into US intent to withdraw from the wars in the Middle East. The advertisement in Recoil, made public after Defense Secretary Jim Mattis announced his resignation, prompted concerns that president Donald Trump might be seeking to privatize ongoing American engagements in Afghanistan and Syria, following the declared troops' withdrawal from the region.

It really bothers me that yet again we've made a promise to the Kurds and haven't followed through.

I seriously don't get why someone would start another private military firm with that name.

Academi is doing well for itself since it's rebranding from the OG Blackwater days and being purchased by a Euro security firm and given the shit the original Blackwater got spanked for...

Yup America stabbed them in the back ..again !
Used them to fight off ISIS then abandoned them so that Erdogan can slaughter them.

In the 80s the US supported Saddam when he gassed the Kurds, then the US used the Kurds as an excuse to strike Saddam but abandoned the Shia and Kurds after Saddam was kicked out of Kuwait, Then following the Iraq war, America used them to assist in hitting Saddam then ISIS. And now abandons them once their usefulness has passed.

Honestly wouldn't surprise me if the Turkish army proved ineffective in doing anything about them. When is the last time they proved useful, beyond a coup?

Erdogan has talked a big game and needs to portray strength to the masses, by orchestrating this offensive, after his economy had taken a nose-dive. A win over the Kurds would get him back to Turkish people's good graces. He knows, just like Saddam Hussein did, that his popularity amongst his own is directly correlated with how much strength he is capable of projecting to the outside world.

Generally speaking, electing to use the military option hasn't panned out too well for Middle Eastern governments. They back themselves to a corner and force men to fight battles that are without meaning, against enemies that are usually more motivated to fight, in defense of their self-interests.

Another thing that bothers be is the assertion that we've "defeated ISIS"; we haven't. And no surprise, the biggest concentration of ISIS fighters is... Afghanistan.

Trump knows better than military leaders...
