Goat wrestling game ?

Xpac was a damn cheat he could get his finisher up by taunting in a few second.

Otherwise flawless

Very close GOAT with Here Comes the Pain

Only flaws were the limitations of N64 hardware

Blocky models and slowdown during 4 man brawls

There was four wrestling games I was pretty much addicted to. No Mercy, SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain, WrestleMania 2000 and SmackDown! vs. Raw 2006 (mostly because I was obsessed with GM Mode).

Never played No Mercy, but I played the shit out of 'WCW VS NWO VS The World' and 'WWF Attitude.'

Wasn't even the best AKI game of that generation. Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 beats it easily. That game had MMA, a ridiculously stacked roster, and a deeper creation mode. No Mercy was freaking great though, I have a ton of love for it.

Fire Pro Wrestling Returns deserves a mention. The graphics can put a lot of people off, but the depth of that game was mindblowing.

I think so. Every new addition I wish it would just be no mercy with graphics and a few bells and whistles.

I miss being able to brawl all over the arena

VPW2 and No Mercy both had engine elements the other didn't have. Overall VPW2 comes out ahead in that regard but overall I think it's very hard to make a slam-dunk case for either being "easily" better than the other. Did VPW2 even have backstage areas ?

Either way, my (personal) Mt. Rushmore of rasslin games so far is: No Mercy, Here Comes the Pain, WWE 2K16

I know it's probably insanely early to put 2K16 in there, and maybe I'm suffering from recency bias ... but I think it objectively has the most realistic match pacing of any wrestling sim I've ever played. Hell, it's the first wrestling game I can say really is a sim. Most of the Smackdown-lineage games are arcade/simulation hybrids I'd say (some leaning more to one side or the other), but ... for example, even a squash match on this with a very high rated character against a very low rated character lasts a few minutes. In No Mercy I can get Austin up to special in a few seconds, and three Stunners in a row is enough to pin anyone. Now I guess someone could argue that for some characters that is realistic, but ... anyway.

With a better Career mode and just a couple/few other extra bells/whistles, 2K16 ... well, I doubt anything could really surpass No Mercy for me just because of the life-events going on at the time that I associate with No Mercy, but I might be considering the possibility at least. But I've been putting more time into this than any other game I've bought in a real long time, and I don't think that's just random coincidence.

I considered putting Day of Reckoning on there ... it was a long, looong time before a game with the AKI-engine lineage felt like it really captured the spirit of the N64-era games, and DOR 1 at least felt like a worthy successor. But, idk ... maybe it's because I never played that as anything but single player (although that doesn't appear to be harming my love for 2K16).

I feel kinda bad for some of the other Smackdown games. I do think HCTP is the one I put the most time into, but a lot of that is, again, due to life circumstances ... was hanging around a lot of other rasslin fans during the HCTP era, heavily dried up on that afterward. And had started to get a lot more into mma and training with my buddies, and some other nerd stuff, kinda pushed rasslin to the backburner for a while.

Super Fire Pro Wrestling Special on the SNES is the Goat pro wrestling game in my opinion.

Oh, I actually forgot to finish that last post. I feel bad for other underrated Smackdown games - some were pretty good as far as arcadey games go. And I honestly only barely touched the Smackdown vs Raw era. I think I in total played one or two of them, and only one of them for any decent amount of time.

1. No Mercy
2. Smackdown HCtP
3. Fire Pro Returns

I loved SmackDown 2.

All the other games mentioned are pretty good as well.

I got far more hours out of WCW/nWo Revenge and Wrestlemania 2000. I think I was a little burnt out by NM.

Loved it still own it. Smackdown 2 was so much better, so much shit to unlock, plus the first game to feature hell in the cell. I heard about gameshark codes able to give htc in no mercy but never seen it, just myth probably.

Wrestlemania 2000 was a huge leap for WWF games, changed everything.

My favorite til this day, wwf attitude. You could customize everything and it had wrestlers theme music in full length. I love that old acolytes theme. That was the era when new ps games cost $40 bucks.

Anyone have vivid memories of this game ?

I remember asking my mom for it and expecting her to say no (those days I would have to get most things from garage sales or xmas/bday). She just goes okay let's go and we went to Kmart and bought it. I took my wrestling watching friend with me and we bought slurpees and soda then played it all night all high on caffeine and sugar.

Easily the best. There are a few games out there with more depth, but also had glaring issues. No Mercy is indeed perfect. Everything just worked. I can't even play the new games for more than 10 minutes. May as well call them "Create a Wrestler", because that's the only fun thing about them.

im a mark for wcw/nwo revenge

No Mercy
Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth
Wrestlemania 2000
WCW/NWO Revenge
WCW/NWO World Tour

Those were the top five wrestling games I put the most time into in that order. Shut Your Mouth was the last wrestling game I ever bought, so I missed out on HCTP and RvS 2006. It seems the consensus is that those were good.

And no Mercy as the culmination of the bottom 3 games on that list. It had EVERYTHING.

Graphics be damned. Best controls, best gameplay and awesome customization and unlockables. 4 controllers, 3 cases of Beer and 4 friends and it was good times. So long as people had their custom characters made well in advance. If they tried making them night of, they were vetoed

I wish there was some way to play it online now. I'd love to put a beat down on yalls ass clown asses
