Social No Kings national protest 10/18 - the end of Trump and MAGA?

Yesterday, my boat neighbor passed me at the gate as we were getting ready for a Halloween pirate event.

Imagine: 60+ years old white woman. Married but childless. She couldn't help but let ALL of us know she just walked back from the protest, pointing to her sign. There were 7 of us there. But for some reason she was facing me, talking to me, and her sign was facing me. I just stared at her with my eyebrows up. I didn't say anything.

She walked off right after that. I just looked at my wife with that knowing look. She rolled her eyes.

Was she looking for my approval? Was she trying to start an argument? I dunno. But I'm a white guy. So obviously a racist xenophobic transhater misogynist.

About 2 hours later she shows up for the event. She apologizes if she offended me with her sign. Starts trying to explain herself. I just smiled and said none of that bothers me.

She freezes and walks away. Im now convinced she is just looking to start a "conversation".

Tldr: neighbor no-kings marcher declared war. I have decided to kill her with kindness and tolerance.
She was trying to find common ground and you were being a dick. Pretty much our back and forth here.

Indeed, it's definitely "raised voices" and buildings "accidentally colliding" with molotov cocktails, just like the rogue SUV that got a mind of its own and drove itself into a Christmas parade while the black supremacist driving was just trying to drive home to feed his kids.

Good luck, I hope your fantasy becomes reality for ya, son.

So how'd your fantasy nightmare scenario work out in the end, wimpy?

Is crime down now or out of control still?

Did the lunatic left rip your city up or are you a weak minded fool?

Just a few points about No Kings:

1. The right wing argument: "If we had a king we wouldn't be allowed to protest so the protest is pointless" is beyond stupid and beyond bad faith.

Obviously the point is that we don't WANT an executive with maximalist powers that threaten democratic gaurdrails. But that doesn't fit on a poster, and if you need someone to spell it out for you, you are a hopeless anyways.

2. Would a large "No Fuhrer" movement in Berlin in 1932 have been "pointless"?

3. Ridicule the people all you want, there were 7 million of them. It was the largest single day of political activism in the history of this country and probably the world.

Play it down if you want, but that's what it was.

4. No authoritarian regime has ever survived a mobilized popular movement of more than 3.5% of the population. We're getting close to that threshold. This is a good thing because it sends the message that there isnt a lot of margin of error for Trump to fuck around with further unpopular policies.

5. 7 million people in the street with virtually NO violence completely puts to bed the Republican lie that MAGAs main opposition are radical leftist extremists.

That's his go to shtick, everyone is triggered, or coping or seething. Probably a 20 something year old gender confused individual with absolutely nothing going for they/them.
I do agree with your previous point that both sides are absolute crap.
See -- now because I don't like either side, I'm a hypocrite -- when all I gave was an honest, independent viewpoint from a non-party perspective.... So now, from my understanding, not being left/right/red/blue just makes you an individual that contradicts their stated beliefs -- when I literally was asking why religious devotion to party politics has to be a 24/7 365 thing with someones life -- or what this protest even accomplished. No one has proposed better or worse ideas -- just meme responses, instant labeling, TLDR and LOL -- "you are triggered" as retorts.

The "war room" in theory is discussion and debate, but since even just looking around and making some posts -- it's pretty clear it's just each party side stroking their own junk with little to no back and forth ACTUAL conversation taking place.

It's actually quite sad -- but I read every post in here from all posters on it... It's all just background noise.

Right? It's that same old crap that they like to trot out about communities helping each other to fill in the gaps. That leaves hundreds of thousands of people without proper food and shelter. Leaving it up to "the good of the community" is just another way of saying we are cutting food assistance and healthcare. It's a disgusting lie that is perpetuated by the ruling class and dimwits buy into it.

What it is really rooted in is racism/classism. They believe the ones left behind deserve it.
I couldn’t even make it through his next rant. He basically said it’s worth throwing millions off the programs they need because something something trans people.

Great post.

So, the GOP is holding up this bill over ACA subsidies.

I will engage with anyone here.

My family and myself are being inundated by medical bills. We get old. We break down.

It is a fucking financial emergency here.

In no fucking way should getting sick or getting fucked up should your house or you being able to be safe be in question.

It's a horrible for-profit system.

Talk to me when you are 52 and looking at your mother at 75. Spry and going strong. But you know it's coming. I have no faith in my healthcare system. Her doctors shuffle her threw as quick as possible.

Paying bills. Paying rent? That should be able to afford you being able to live. It doesn't in America.

I thought I was going to be protected when I saw Reagan win.
Good post bro. I understand you much better.

I predict a 6 month extension of the Obama care subsidies and a new and better system to replace it.

The marketing and name sucked -- and it could and should have had a more concise narrative. I don't think that's really in question, and with the kinda funding/organizing/media coverage -- whose to say how many more would have felt compelled to come out for it. However....

24/7 365 politics, polls, stats.... I mean, sure people went out on a saturday and made some content + memes -- mainly like a modern flash mob + show in numbers (most were a photo op in length) -- but how impactful is that when the saturation is all day anyways? Politically speaking ; hammering away at each other, not really even giving back and forth -- just literal trolling back and forth, with each side claiming it's a win somehow, heh.

I don't think anyone's playing it down. If the math is correct , 7 million is like 2.6% of all adults in the US over 18 -- it sends a message, again -- the marketing team -- they need some fuckin' work lol....

And yes, keep it peaceful.
