It's still early days. Knowing the Dems, there will be a field of 57 or so candidates. Who knows how it shakes out. Kamala was one of the favorites heading into 2020, and she couldn't get a single delegate.
She was a MSM creation who never got above 13% in the national polls against the other Democrat candidates.
I think both Newsom and AOC are blowing their load way too early. Trump hasn’t even finished his first year of this term, let alone the midterms.
If the democrats have a less than stellar midterm, especially if they do not retake either the house or senate, then Newsom and AOC should be rightfully blamed, as they have been the most vocal democrats, basically de facto leaders of the party, since Trump took office.
Plus running annoying progressives from NYC or CA is not a good strategy for the dems. They need someone from a swing state like Michigan. Gretch is a progressive from what I can tell, but at least she isn’t a vocal freak about it.
All political bickering, shitposting, and trolling aside - I like analyzing possible candidates for their likelihood of seeking the presidency.
But for the 'Gretch,' I'm not seeing it.
First, she's been one of the friendlier Democrat Governors towards Trump, not only meeting him in the oval office but also onstage in Michigan in front of the military.
Second, Democrats will want a pitbull against whomever the Republicans run in 2028 (probably Vance). Someone who will throw them red meat and to channel their rage in political speeches.
I'm not seeing that at all in her... at all.
She has 'state politician' energy and possible Michigan Senator if there's a vacancy near when her terms are up as Governor.
Gavin Newsom is still the odds-on-favorite because he obviously wants to be President and he has the savagery of a political veteran to do anything to decimate anyone that stands in his way, including those who are in his own party.
He's damn good in interviews and great at giving speeches.
But as great as he is in those aspects... there's A LOT of baggage that comes with him related to his terms as governor. That's ammunition Republicans will shoot him with in the general election season, and Newsom doesn't do well on defense.
(See his debate with DeSantis)
I mentioned AOC earlier... I'm not sure she's going to run.
She's going to be on the fast-track to be a leader of the Democrats in the House within a few years after Pelosi retires.
There's ALOT of talk she's going to run for Schumer's senate seat, though I'm not sure if that'll be an increase in power & influence to be a 1st term senator.
And if she runs for President and loses against Vance... Does she go back to the House/Senate? That'd destroy her influence... losing to the Republican and giving them another 8 years in the White House? (Probably)
I'm not convinced she'd be willing to risk it. She's very comfortable where she is.
So... That's the way I'm seeing things as of now.
