I think that people romanticise Pride a little too much. Yes, it gave us the best HW talent ever, no doubt, but it also gave us horrible boring fights where nothing happens and fighters just stare at each other tentative of engaging. It also gave us plenty of guard pullers and Japanese cans with no idea how to throw a punch.

It‘s not all Igor/Ninja/Fedor.

Yep, UFC cleaned most of it out for awhile too. Fitch, Shields, Okami, and a few others. I think UFC has matured enough to loosen rules. We've already seen the 12-6 elbows come back and the "downed opponent" knee rule removed. I think gradually they should allow any upkicks from downed fighters and knees to bottom. Just even the playing field. Soccer kicks and others can wait until the end if needed.

maybe they'd gas and get finished atleast in a 10 min round
 
its not even about wrestling being that dominant of a martial art. it is made more dominant by the rule set. if you can just take and hold someone down and play the clock in this way you significantly reduce your chances of being finished and you have effectively controlled the fight. take away wrestling and other techniques would be used to accomplish the same goal though. there is an obvious flaw in the sport when it comes to judging rounds, scores ect but its a hard one to come up with a full proof solution for.

Maybe, and I mean maybe, when a fighter with Nick's fight IQ (maybe ???) recognizes the importance that wrestling plays in MMA, he would embrace and train it, rather than rage against the fucking machine acting like a whiny bitch. Two morons pushing a rock uphill complaining about how heavy and hard it is. Despite all his successes, Nick is his own worst enemy and squandered talent. If he was more focused on fighting guys instead of life, he would have been a much bigger star.

Both Diaz's should go to BKFC, have their last fight and get their potato card.
 
The UFC ditched its "lets find out what is the superior martial art" a long time ago. The fact is the majority of fans that tune in aren't hardcores and whether loyalists like it or not, aren't a fan of letting BJJ specialists lock up positions for 20 minutes straight with minimal attempts at finishing.
The sport would have died a long time ago had standing inactivity up not became the norm.
 
I remember Randy Couture admitting that John McCarthy criticized him for holding guys down and landing rabbit punches, and that Big John was impressed when he TKO'd Chuck Liddell.

So people have been criticizing that style since ~2003, over 20 years ago.
 
Not having grounded knees is not some minor issue - it both fundamentally breaks what the sport originally was supposed to be beyond all repair AND makes it far less entertaining simultaneously.

It's really quite incredible how accepting of it the vast majority of fans are, but they just don't know any better. This pointless, boring, bastardized version of MMA needed to die a long time ago.

In the era of Power Slap where nobody cares about anything, surely the UFC could get the once-squeamish athletic commissions to roll over.
 
I love the irony: All he did against GSP was instantly turtle up and try to roll over. If GSP could've kneed to the head on the ground and stomped/soccer kicked, he would've finished Nick's whiny ass in a round or two. Beyond his inveterate whining, I do miss PRIDE rules, but it was always give-and-take: In the UFC, I'd miss the knees and kicks to downed opponents, but in PRIDE, I'd miss elbows to the head on the ground.

The only perfect rule set is no rules.

The same Nick who resorted to wrestling and wall n stall against Condit in later rounds because he supposedly got frustrated with his footwork and movement.

It was always annoying watching the Diaz bros fight because I always got the impression that they wouldn't work on all aspects, especially wrestling, because it's "pussy shit." Most of their loses were getting taken down by better wrestlers and trying to play BJJ instead of getting back up.
 
The rules of MMA favor striking, but you should continue to cry more about it.
 
The most boring fights are two strikers who dont exchange at all... why arent you bitching about that?

Learn to grapple kid and stop whining
