Contrary to what many Sherbros contend, they both lack boxing skills, which may be partially why Conor thought he could beat Nate.

Quite simply, the success they've had is primarily due to BEING TOUGHER THAN THEIR OPPONENTS, and I'm including cardio in context with toughness because MMA is a full-contact sport and one who endures through the pain of extended battle is truly valorous.

RELAXING IS KEY when engaging a fight, and the Diaz brothers don't get rattled.

Take the Nate vs Cerrone fight... Cerrone was far too amped up; (due to Nate being in his head) he may have experienced an adrenaline dump early on...whilst Nate slapped him around the cage.

Anyway, as I was saying in regards to their lack of boxing: They don't even snap jabs and instantly get their hands back for defense...nor do they possess great lateral offensive or defensive movement...

Mind you, I'm not trying to shit on them by any means, I'm just putting things into perspective.

Conor saw a very open target in Nate and probably figured he could blast him out early...

...well, it's not that easy when your opponent is tougher than you are.

...it's not that easy when your opponent has a great chin.

Also of note as it pertains to this post, they seem to be naturally slow of hand and foot...as I imagine their bodies may be composed primarily of slow-twitch muscle fibers at least somewhat akin to naturally gifted marathon runners. (whereas fighters like Rumble and Romero have an over-abundance of fast-twitch fibers)

...which is PRECISELY why it would behoove them to work on things such as BOXING (as it pertains to MMA) and WRESTLING. Having a stronger base would be useful towards kicking...which they both utterly lack.

They could've (SHOULD'VE in my opinion, for their own well-being) focused on strength training (full body movements such as proper deadlifts/squats/wind sprints/etc which are some of the only ways to engage fast-twitch muscle fibers whilst releasing natural HGH) in order to enable wrestling skills needed to force the issue to the ground. (of course, they'd have to train for wrestling concurrently)

Look at Maia... He is a limited striker (to say the least, although he is working on it...or trying to) but he has somewhat improved as a wrestler as of late so he can more easily take opponents to the mat where his true skills shine. If only more fighters had the cool/calm/respectful demeanor that Maia has...(as opposed to "stars" like Conor and Ronda...) but I digress.

In the end, the Diaz brothers have indeed been successful in their MMA careers, (Nate is definitely on the rise) but had they focused on their weaknesses instead of relying on their toughness they could've been far better fighters... AWESOME BJJ (their ground game is obviously lauded) only goes so far if you struggle to actually use it...

That said, to reiterate, I'm really not trying to besmirch their name, as I appreciate what they do, (I always watch them fight and I recognize their warrior spirit) but their approach should not be mimicked from a success standpoint in terms of up and coming fighters who are training for MMA for example.

Anyway, WAR Diaz!

You're an idiot. You think just because they are the tough it's the only reason they knock fools out. Sorry but toughness alone doesn't get you to the top of the fight world.

Maybe look at the accuracy and timing they have. They mix up strikes to the head and body better than most in MMA

Andre Ward says they can hold their own.

I believe him over sherdogger.

Didn't read. Just came in to say you're really dumb for making this thread and your opinions are trash if you actually believe this.

Nate certainly can box. In the context of MMA he is one of the better boxers around.

I read what you wrote and you didn't back up anything you said. Show me some examples of their poor boxing.

I think I'll take the word of Andre Ward and Vergil Hunter over your's. Thank you very much.

There's really no one in mma that is a good boxer compared to good pro boxers. But when just talking about mma the Diaz brothers are up there, Anderson, Edgar, etc.... but they would all get schooled by a a good pro boxer in a boxing match.

They CAN hold their own from a cardio/toughness/chin standpoint whilst SPARRING IN A BOXING CONTEXT but if you think for one second that they could simply become successful PRO BOXERS...I really don't know what to say except for...you're crazy.

I agree....they cannot be pro boxers.
Fortunately they are in the UFC and get to use all their weapons.

!

That's because they're 6'+ fighting short guys and just leaving their long arms dangling out controls distance and gets in the way of their opponents' punches.

When was the last time you saw having your hands up help out that much in MMA anyways? Whenever a guy tries to use a boxing guard, he gets KTFO fast; see - Overeem vs Liddell, etc.

Andre Ward is a borderline FEATHER-FISTED boxer, so keep that in mind.

Andre is going to fight Kovalev soon................and you can bet the bank on Kovalev beating him down. Mark my words.

Now imagine this... The Diaz brothers successfully sparring with SERGEI KOVALEV................ Haha.

Nate Diaz apologizes for not having Barboza's chin.
