NHB Was More Exciting Than MMA

Have you ever heard of pankration? The oldest unarmed fighting Olympic sport about 2600 years old. No, fighting with weapons is not the purest form because that could lead to a fight to the death. In Pankration rules if you kill your opponent YOU lose. Look it up and learn some history. NHB was basically pankration, nhb became mma today.

The purest form of combat includes the possibility of death. That's simply a fact of nature; it applies between animals within a species (lion against lion, human against human), and it applies between species (human against lion). Often within a species it won't be fatal because one will run away, or concede, but the possibility of death is there in pure combat.

Pankration was great for unarmed fighting, but unarmed fighting is artificial for humans. We're primarily weapons fighters - with weapons (even primitive ones like spears, axes, clubs and knives) we're an apex predator. Without them we're carrion eaters and prey.

There's a reason armies, muggers, police and anyone else serious about fighting uses weapons - its how we fight. Martial arts have always included weapons, both in eastern arts and in western arts (swords, staff, knives are part of every regions fighting styles).

I think unarmed combat of various kinds, each with its own restrictions, are great.

The funniest argument regarding NHB was that a noob could just kick an MMA fighter in the balls during a fight and win. Bitch, Jon Jones could place a ball shot with much more precision and power than you can.

Bas has some pretty hilarious points about this type of thing, at 3:30 (sorry don't recall how to timestamp on phone) he discusses someone claiming they "would poke his eye out" if he tried a rnc on them

he also discusses (I think it is this interview) the eye poke/ nut shot phenomena and how if that is fair game how he would just be infinitely more accurate and more powerful at poking eyes and kicking balls since he trains 24/7 all his life so basically "bring it on". Pretty funny stuff.
