Media Ngannou pays respect to Stipe

I still wonder from time to time what could've been if Stipe didn't get overzealous after he landed that big shot on Ngannou in their last bout.
He had Francis hurt.

He would have gotten knocked out eventually. Francis stuffed his takedowns, started leg kicking him. Francis has an iron chin. I got nothing but love for Stipe but he was losing that fight in that round.

The excuses didn't matter with miocic even though he fought MORE per year than the avg HW champ BEFORE needing eye surgery after cormier tried to gouge his eye out.

As I said above, the excuses don't matter, so when you add it up - ONE fight in 2020 for nganoo and ONE fight in 2021 for ngannoo. That means the current HW champ gives you ONE fight a year. ONE is a number you can't argue, it's right there in black and white.

Ok, you wanna use stats. You choose the wrong dance partner, buddy!

You’re counting Ngannou’s fight in 2020, when he wasn’t the champ. If so, you must count his whole career to make an average. He’s had 19 fights in 8 years, which translates to 2,4 fights per year.

From December 2017 till June 2019 he had 6 fights. That’s 6 fights in 18 months in UFC. A fight every 3 months on average. That’s incredibly active for a high profile UFC fighter.

And even as the champ, he fought in March 2021. His next fight is January 2022, which is 10 months after his previous fight, which will mean he had 2 fights in a year.

His longest break ever was 11 months, from June 2019 till May 2020, when his fight was cancelled 2 times due to Covid. And it was still less than a year between the fights.

You’re wrong, it’s right there in black and white.

Jones wants no part of a protagonist who will highlight reel him and send him to permanent meme land.

He's more active than both Stipe and DC were. He's also accepted the fight with Gane. I still don't understand the hate on Francis. He's a nice guy. He's an exciting fighter.

Just as likely that francis slows down and the takedowns start to work as he gets heavier and heavier. Who knows what would have happened, stipe was in trouble and he foolishly over-pursued, believing he found his chance. Goodnight

It's possible. I think people were exaggerating how much Francis seemed to slow after that first. I'm more of the mindset that Stipe was going to get knocked out because unless Francis gassed heavy, his other tactics had already failed. Francis shut down his wrestling and clinch work. In the striking exchanges he was bound to get finished.

I agree and I can say the same about Gane. I’m super excited for their fight, but at the same time I don’t want for either guy to lose.

Yeah, my original post was facesious, in that miocic fought more than 1x per yr, but many ngannoo fans wouldn't allow for time off for surgery from cormier's eye gouge. Do you acknowlwdge miocic fought more than 1x/yr, before needing eye gouge surgery?

I never disputed that

Not a hypocrite, but someone who learned the hard and painful way that he was wrong not to respect him before. You are allowed to change one's opinions for the better, after all.
Sure, after he KOd him into oblivion. You really think if Ngannou lost that second fight he'd also post this? Fucking. Hypocrite.

Impossible to say, but Stipe was not having the better hand there
1)Stipe was fighting for his life when he landed that punch, he took a nasty knock down 4 seconds before and wasn't fully recovered
2) Ngannou was merely stung, he regained his footing and stance immediately
3) Stipe was getting soundly beaten all the fight, and only landed that clean hit in a chaotic exchange

More than likely, Ngannou would have found a finish later in the 2nd round.

As a HW champion being screwed by the UFC, he shows respect to a previous HW champion screwed by the UFC.

It's in line with stuff he was saying before he won the belt. The bit about learning more in one night than he'd learned in the past 4 years in the sport, that's straight from his post-fight interview after UFC 220. Certainly his demeanor in the lead up the second time around was different than the first, when he was kinda obnoxious and very dismissive of Stipe. So I don't think it's just the cheap sentiments a victor might throw out just to look good.
