Ngannou #5 P4P

Anyone else find it a bit ridiculous that Ngannou is so high on the P4P rankings?

He has 20-30+ lbs of lean mass on pretty much all of the guys he fights. If he was the same size as Stipe, he wouldn't hit anywhere near as hard, wouldn't take a punch as well, and probably gets taken down and beaten again in the rematch.

And he probably loses to several other heavyweights if you control for weight or, in particular, lean mass. Since a bunch of heavyweights are holding a lot of fat just because they can and still make the limit.
Yeah Ngnannou is one of the few actual HWs and he's the biggest in the division. Doesn't cut weight but is 255 with no body fat. Most HWs are fat or closer to LHW than the HW max. Then if you consider the actual meaning of p4p Ngannou is really just a heavy hitter. Hasn't show kicks or much of a ground game. He for sure is the baddest man on the planet though.

Everybody judges P4P differently but for me I look at the skillset level of the fighters and their success in using it. His ranking is clearly a combination of hype train and simply giving bonus points because he is a belt holder. He is definitely not the fifth best P4P fighter. In fact there are multiple fighters in the same weight class on some divisions where one of them isn't a belt holder that should rank above him.

I don't dislike him and hope he develops his skills, but so far he is a one trick pony with his KO/TKO's. Maybe this isn't all his fault since he is playing the game in a division where 99% of the rest of them aren't much more versatile if any on skillset. But when compared to HW's of the past there is proof that a HW can be far better than this.

Get your facts straight. Stipe started MMA late too. And Nogannou has been in MMA now 7 plus years. Hardly “Not too long ago”

Stipe had a wrestling background. Francis literally came from nothing

You don't know what p4p means.

P4P is based on if every fighter is the same size who is the best... Well no other fighter in the rankings would beat him if they were all heavyweight... ;)

Nah, thats a joke. The biggest and strongest guy in the division frankly really needs to earn his way into the pound for pound. Nothing about Ngannou's skillset screams that he'd be successful if he didn't have the huge physical advantages.

He may not be the P4P best but he can sure as hell murder any UFC fighter that's for damn sure.

P4P is nothing more than a theoretical exercise to market smaller fighters. Put someone like Dustin (who's #6) inside the cage with him, and you'll be left debating the theory of "p4p" while they try to revive Dustin's lifeless body.

Yeah it's a joke.

Imaging Wilder as a 5# P4P... Lmfao. The way he makes 40-70lbs bigger guys fly all over the place makes me horny as fuck but he shouldn't be there & I'm a big Wilder fan. He even said that he doesn't belong there (P4P list).

LOL at people being shocked that the HW champ on a 5 KOs streak is #5 but not that a 230lbs Jones who lost/barely won to Reyes and Santos is #1.

Manlets detected

is this even Sherdog?

<JagsKiddingMe>

This tired ass argument about the half men having more “tools”. Francis KOs any 3 shrimps u goofs are talking about at one time.

p4p an ant is the strongest. this whole metric is made to market manlets that ar too scared to move up.

People generally don't appreciate that "adjustment" in P4P goes both ways.

They always upgrade smaller fighters getting bigger in things like power and clinch strength, but never downgrade them in things like footwork, dexterity and quickness.

That's why most P4P stuff usually reduces to how much you dominate the people within your division, in practical terms.

Welcome to reality where size, strength, and genetics >>>>> technique. People can complain all they want about guys like Ngannou, Wilder, Lewis, and Lesnar but that's just the way the world works. If you're big enough and strong enough you'll have a good chance of just crushing your opponent.
