Seriously, when will these kids learn that water and football don`t mix?

FOX Sports has learned that more than 10 players were identified to NFL teams as either testing positive for drugs or having a diluted sample in February.

The top prospect on the list was Florida State defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan, who is projected as a mid first-round selection. Jernigan tested positive for a diluted urine sample, FOX Sports has learned. Another big name was Louisiana State quarterback Zach Mettenberger. ProFootballTalk.com first reported that Mettenberger tested positive for having a diluted urine sample, which would count as a failed test under the NFL'€™s drug program.

Jernigan'€™s agent Sunny Shah declined comment Monday about the failed test when reached by FOX Sports.

Mettenberger'€™s agents Joe Linta and Seth Katz told FOX Sports that the diluted sample was caused by extra water his client was drinking on the advice of his doctor. Linta said Mettenberger had begun to suffer from cramping while rehabilitating from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

sauce: NFL prospects fail water test

Summary: the two players listed in the headline "failed" a drug test because their urine was too watery. I`m not sure what to say here other than 'wow'. The only way you can dilute urine like that is by drinking a lot of water, and a lot of athletes are told that if you are not pissing clear than you could be getting dehydrated. Not sure why the NFL would consider this a "failed" drug test as water is not illegal and drinking a lot of it is good for you (too much can flush out vitamins, but still). Shame these kids names are getting drug through the dirt for excessive water.

The thing is that when you use the common products that mask drug tests, they dilute your sample. I'm not sure if they have a way of telling between samples diluted because of extra water or samples diluted because of masking.

you are literally retarded.

Good call, the NFL obviously doesn`t have the technology to test for common masking agents (they aren`t as big as the UFC after all), and a urine sample diluted by excessive hydration is obviously a sure sign of guilt.

Well maybe instead of getting mad you could share your expertise and explain to us unenlightened folks how diluted urine that doesn't contain illegal substances mean you were using illegal substances?

I drank a lot last night so my urine was pretty diluted at some point last night as well as this morning, so tell me -- which illegal substance I was using? Neither of the two dudes mentioned actually tested positive for anything illegal

You're flipping out because one article said that the diluted tests counted as "failed tests," even though there's no real punishment attached to them. The NFL isn't suspending anyone for a diluted test at the combine, but they're required by the CBA to report tests as diluted if that's how they come back. The players will get a chance to argue their case to the teams interested in them and if the teams believe them, they can ignore it and draft them.

Not sure why you decided to stand on your soap box in this thread when you clearly don't understand how combine testing works.

Also, what's wrong with posting this in the NFL thread? Are you really that desperate for attention that you needed to start your own thread?

Lol, calm down there chief. I could not care much less about this issue in the big picture, it's a slow day at work so I'm posting on a lightly trafficked sub forum -- no need to get your panties in a bunch.

As to the point, the players are obviously getting some bad press and some sites are leaving out completely the fact that it was due to a diluted test and are just saying they failed the test.

I'm not gonna lose any sleep over kids who have it made anyway, I just think it's funny how mouth breathers all over the internet are getting enraged over "more college students failing drug tests" (looking at you Santi claus) when that's not really the case.

Did you just read "10 fail combine drug tests" without reading the actual article you were linking to? lol, thanks for backing down and congrats on the fail thread. You may go now.

Wow dude. Idk if you were born gotten to or what but please either address excessive hydration or take your nerd rage elsewhere.

I'll take that as a 'yes,' I guess. Next time read the entire article.

Hah. Did you read the article? There's only a cursory mention of players other than Mettenberger or Jernigan (sp) failing a drug test. The article centers around two players who failed a drug test for diluted urine, not illegal substances.

However, let me try again:

"I can't believe how dumb these athletes are. Millions on the line and they can't even pass a drug test. They get free room and board as well as FREE tuition for 4 years that regular students never get and become completely entitled and spoiled brats. These guys are probably gonna be broke and on welfare 2 years out of the league -- too bad the National Felony League will overlook this like they always do."

Am I doing it right?

Exactly, yet diluted tests aren't really failed tests. Just because a Fox News article describes them as failed tests, doesn't mean they actually are. I already explained to you that there are no real punishments associated with combine testing.

I do find it funny that these kids are brazen enough to take shitty masking agents or simply not putting the pipe down for long enough to test clean at an event where you know you're going to be tested. It's a combination of false confidence + stupidity + ignorance.

add that to the NCAA ' S testing which is a joke, or simply swept under the rug. Some of these players might think that they might get away with failing a test because they did in college.

there was another dude busted for weed. I mean, come on man, can't you wait until after you sign your contract?

Please reread the article; perhaps you should try a screen reader as the article clearly says the NFL considers them failed tests. If you take a dui test, the police say it is inconclusive but that it is considered a fail (without legal punishment), and your name gets put on the front page of the paper as having failed a dui, would that be OK with you? Let me guess, you're not "dumb" enough to get into that situation in the first place, right?

Please find one place where I said you said that. Talk about strawman, sheesh.

The NFL considers them failed tests if they happen in the NFL, not at the combine.

It's really just too easy.

Wrong. Obviously the reaction to them from the NFL is different than if they were currently in the league but if you were to ask the NFL is these guys failed a drug test the answer would be yes

It's really just too easy.

Yeah I said you were getting mad about it. You can't deny that, why don't you post your blood pressure pre and post thread and see if I'm lying. And don't blame your stress and nerd rage on me and this thread like a scrub either.

No, it wouldn't. That's why the article makes sure to point out that if they were taken under the NFL's normal drug policy, they would be failed tests. Why would they point that out if the NFL just considers them all failed tests?

Come on, man. The whole reason this thread has continued for so long is because you're angry everyone called you a retard in the beginning. Just take a deep breath and count to 10. Then maybe you'll have a chance of making a post in this thread where you don't completely embarrass yourself.
