I mean it does. It lends credence to the fact he is a overrated HC that's only true success came with another coaches roster/lockeroom. The further he got away from those initial teams the less success he had. His resume of the last decade gets any other HC fired anywhere else.
People talk like Tomlin should be up there with the best coaches of all time but his resume says otherwise. This is their playoff performances since the SB loss to the Packers:
- 2011: One and done against Tim Tebow
- 2012-2013: Missed playoffs
- 2014: One and done against the Ravens
- 2015: Beat AJ McCarron thanks to a Vontaaze Burfict penalty, then lost to the Broncos in the Divisional
- 2016: Beat Matt Moore and Alex Smith, but got destroyed by the Patriots in the AFCCG
- 2017: One and done against Blake Bortles (at home and after having the first round bye)
- 2018-2019: Missed playoffs
- 2020: Destroyed by the Browns
- 2021: Destroyed by the Chiefs
- 2022: Missed playoffs
- 2023: Destroyed by the Bills
- 2024: Destroyed by the Ravens
- 2025: Destroyed by the Texans
Plenty of those years were the second half of Ben's prime but I am sure people will parrot the whole "HE DIDN'T HAVE A QB!!!!" nonsense. This is all without going into his coaching hires. The dude has been a HC for nearly 20 years and has produced ZERO head coaches. His coaching tree is a stick.
This teams woes aren't 100% on him, the franchise seems incapable looking past the next game. Drafting Pickett set the team back multiple years, trading a 1st Minkah in 2019
after Ben blew his elbow out was terrible in hindsight, and the 2nd Watt extension was really stupid as well. People will act like Tomlin has zero say in his roster makeup, like he just shows up at training camp and is given a depth chart, but that is nonsense as well.
