The Steelers are 1-11 without Watt and are 79-44 with Watt.

Keep your elite talents at premier positions. The chances of drafting a player even close to that caliber are incredibly slim.
They get even slimmer when you pass up opportunities for draft compensation.
Like I said if this were some "No brainer, no hesitation slam dunk" decision the Steelers would have opened the check book months and months ago.

Two follow ups to that. One is ignoring the fact that there were, and are, multiple other elite pass rushers contracts in the works with Parsons, Hendrickson, Crosby, and Garrett. Teams dont want to set the precedent and players dont want to short themselves.

Second, Aaron Rodgers. It was very up in the air if that was going to happen until just a short time ago. If he didnt come to town, I 120% agree theyd have explored trading Watt.

Last tidbit, and this is just a generalized statement, trading elite players for draft compensation hardly ever works out in favor of the team giving away the said elite player. Certain instances I totally get it, but I think the general thought of it is often silly. The odds of a draft pick replacing an elite player are almost 0.

Chiefs would give up Karlaftis and a 1st for Watt with zero hesitation imo
Ya, any team would give that up. But thats leaving out the record breaking contract requirement part of it lol. Seems like an important part of the puzzle.

@PUO3 Adam Butler breakout player this year. Porter will be a star. Jeanty, Bech, Thorton Jr.

These motherfuckers are getting ready to shake it up.

Me when people are talking about the Steelers and it doesn't involve Big Ben:

I totally get what you're saying, don't think I don't but look at it like this:
They waited on all of those guys and were about to wait for Parsons before he started chirping (probably to get the Steelers to flinch so Jerry can get on with his humiliation ritual) before they broke out the check book.

We talk a lot of shit and call franchises stupid, and no doubt most of them are, but "Conventional Wisdom" isn't really winning ships anymore. Like, the last time a team did things "The right way" was probably the Pats vs the Failcans when you really think about it. Doing things "By the book" isn't how KC, Philly, LA have won superbowls this past decade and I think teams that keep doing this shit are going to keep being mired in mediocrity. IMO the Steelers are a mid team whether they have Watt or not. In my GM/Owner shoes, anytime a player 30 and over who doesn't have rings on his hand, is throwing a football, or both, is telling me they want to re-set the market for their position prior to the new CBA, I'm sending a contract over and if they don't like it they can walk.

As fans and fantasy owners this sounds crazy, but the current landscape of young talent coming in and players in pretty much every position asking for a team to revolve around them isn't sustainable if you don't have a QB, which the Steelers don't.

Like I said, I don't think it's buffoonish or silly, but that's crazy money coming Watt's way that would make sense if they were an actual dynasty holding on to who I would say is a top 5 defensive player; but when you have Nik Bonitto replicating his stats and still on a rookie deal, Jared Verse going in to year 2 looking like a killer on one end and Myles Garrett getting an absolutely absurd contract on the other end, I think you have to ask yourself "Are we even good enough to do be doing this shit and delaying a rebuild that is coming in 2026 whether we win a superbowl or not?"

I dont think the Steelers are playing the conventional game though. In fact, theyve been pretty aggressive this year with major shake ups. Conventional play would have been to trade him and burn it down to rebuild.

I really dont think it takes incredible QB play to make them a scary contender. An average QB gets them pretty damn far imo. They added a significant upgrade at QB and 2 really, really good pass catching weapons. I keep Watt and try to win. And should they win, it wouldnt matter if they paid Watt that contract 10x over no one would bat an eye.

Their receiving corps is a big question, their run game is a huge question, their D-Line is old and their secondary is going to get beat up this year.
They're going to have to play a near-perfect game every game just to be a real contender.

Teams generally don't burn it down these days. Cards, Giants, Cowboys, Dolphins, on and on. Steelers are a cut above that tier but doing shit like this in a division like theirs has just as much a chance to delay the inevitable.

I fuck with their TE room and DK, and Kaleb Johnson was one of my favorite RB prospects. A lot of my opinions are banking on Rodgers making those around him better than they are on their own (namely the o-line) and him looking like he had gotten his legs back under him the last 1/3 or so of the season. If he plays like that, the Steelers are winning a lot of games.

If he plays like the earlier part of the season everyone in Pitts is getting fired lmao.

May they all eat shit and live regardless. Im still pissed we dont get to see Ramsey and Metcalf bludgeon one another anymore.

We need a poll to decide who the greatest rapist athlete of all time was.

Kobe obviously but Big Rape is a solid #2.
