Coach JB of all people had a really good take on this.
Said these younger black guys get their opportunities as someone players in college can relate to and get relegated to “dorm and class wrangling”, making sure players get to class and stay out of trouble. Said this stuff is a timesuck, bc while white assistants are kicking back beers with the coordinators and soaking up how to run a team and manage football situations, these young black assistants are tending to the players.

So when an opportunity arises, all the players say “oh we love Tyrell! He should be the coordinator/coach” and then Tyrell gets promoted, barely knows how to run a practice, let alone a game, let alone a season, then organizations can him and are hesitant to hire people like him.
