Elections New poll shows Biden falling badly, three-way tie for Democratic lead

hi again franklinstower,

of course. i'd vote for Mr. Sanders seven days a week and twice on Sunday if he takes the primary. no problemo.

i am not sure moderate Democrats feel the same way. like i've said earlier in this thread, that bothers me and it worries me.

- IGIT

It worries me too actually. That would mean that we are becoming so divided that we cannot work together and are willing to let the ship drift into the rocks unless it sails in the exact direction we want it to go.

What these "centrist" people need to do is unify the party for the well-being of the party.

Hey @VivaRevolution. I think its time you started a thread asking centrist and corporate dems to stop being so idealistic and unify the party don't you?

hio franklinstower,

for a number of Sanders supporters in 2016, that's exactly what happened.

i'm with you - though i'd probably lean more towards the "well-being of the country". i hope centrists vote for Mrs. Warren or Mr. Sanders if they win the nomination. i also hope that progressives vote for Mr. Biden if he wins.

I'm really glad I was not one of those Bernie supporters who would not vote for Hillary in light of the tragedy of the current presidency.

Biden is not going to win. He will continue to fade and be irrelevant soon enough.

The sad thing is Tulsi could actually win.

hello Cunningham,

maybe.

green new deal? check.

free college? check.

ban fracking? check.

ban assault weapons? check.

DACA citizenship? check.

i'm glad to see Tulsi has won you over. sadly, i don't think this is her year...but she's young and she'll have her chances. you can support her in 2024 if Mr. Trump wins a second term.

hi franklinstower,

i'm glad you weren't one of those folks too.

as far as Mr. Biden goes, we'll see. if its not Biden, i'd be surprised if a moderate didn't end up taking his place in the polls. Joe Biden may fade, but i don't think moderate Democrats are going to vanish - they'll still be there.

i'm getting sleepy, but i'm sure there's been something written about who is the 2nd choice amongst the Biden faithful, should he not win.

I really hope not.

heya Viva,

i was reading the comments section in the NYT regarding this poll.

it was kinda distressing how often i read, "if its not Biden and we end up with either Warren or Bernie, i'm either sitting it out or, reluctantly, voting for Trump".

i found that worrisome. is this sentiment real?

- IGIT

Salutations IGIT,

No, that sentiment is not real.

Best,
AUR

You're gonna have to ask @Jack V Savage and @Fawlty for their reasoning behind those comments

But really, if you take random comments section as proof of anything you're on a sure fire path to being disinformed. Paid trolls/actual bots are a very real and efficient tool that companies and political campaigns use to sway opinion.
Dunno, I wouldn't put too much stock in that because we hear several versions of that every election. Biden has the widest base so it's somewhat logical, but still speculation.

It's good to see Warren and Bernie coming up even with Biden in this poll (8/16-8/20) plus the Economist/YouGov poll (8/17-8/20). But it may not mean anything as other legit polls have different results, including the most recent (Politico/Morning Consult 8/19-8/25), where Biden maintains a big lead. Also important to remember that at this point in a prior election (04?), Joe Lieberman was about as much of a front runner as Biden is now.

Most conclusions people will draw right now, including OP, are bullshit.

You didn't even touch on the position that gives her an actual chance.

Then you listed her biggest weaknesses/liabilities as strengths..

Maybe just sit this one out, champ.

Hi Cunningham,

Those are her positions though. It’s hardly a secret that she supports AOC’s green new deal. Maybe you are upset that she only agreed to study reparations… But it’s a touchy subject for many Americans and I think it’s unrealistic of you to expect her to dive into something like that.

Anyway, hopefully you’ll get the chance to cast a ballot for the lass in the coming decade.

Her anti war stance is her selling point. That unites voters from every bloc.

Your focus on silly social issues when you have a true anti-war candidate before you is depressing and I suppose says everything about what's wrong with the Dem base.

Important to note and remember that this poll is still an outlier, even if the polling averages and trending toward this sort of distribution. But Biden is still ahead of Sanders/Warren by 5-10 points in most other polls.

Bernie Sanders is the best candidate, has the best policies, and is the best person in this race. However, at this point, it's still necessary to remind people of that.

Just curious, how would you estimate the current odds for each candidate?

I prefer to be realistic about my goals instead of ignorantly believing they are imminent and then getting hysterical when faced with reality or people that recognize it. And, no, he's clearly the second most likely nominee at the moment and has the incalculable advantage of having by far the most enthusiastic, dedicated, and robust grassroots movement. Far from "a radical long shot," whatever that means.

And I believe you mean "knob," unless you're meaning to say that I am "one in a superior position in life," in which case thank you. Or "a jack of the same suit as the starter in cribbage that scores one point for the holder," in which case I don't play.

According to vegas odds, warren is the favorite to win the dem candidacy at +190.

Biden is close at +250.

Bernie is +550.
Bernie was 30 to 1 when they opened their markets in Australia. I was thinking of putting a bet on at the time. That was before he announced though. Now he's at like
+350 or something. But then again, I was also thinking of betting on Richard ojeda at the time as well.
