So I had to get a new laptop as my other two were just too dang old.

My primary laptop was a dell and I had a docking station and duel monitors, sound system etc in my office.

I got a new 2-1 style that you can flip around like a tablet, which is handy.

But I’m having issues hooking up monitors. It has no hdmi ports. Just one usb and two of the new usb 3.0.

I got an hdmi to usb 3.0 converter , and another one that has hdmi, usb and a couple other attachments. Was told I could run duel monitors this was. I can’t get the multi one to work with anything else plugged into it.

So I can only connect one monitor now, and when I do and I’m trying to edit video the sound is off a few beats. Only when I have the edit software on my large monitor.

Does anyone have the new style usb 3.0 “docking stations” they are expensive and don’t want to get one and have it do the same shit.

I really don’t want to build a desktop for the office but it’s starting to look like i might have too

FAQ the more technology iproves the worst it gets.

Other random new aggravation on the same front. My new go pro needs and expensive adapter for microphone. My damn phone need an adapter for head phones and or microphone

What’s with every damn thing needing adapters and not working correctly through them???

these seem to work decently, but one of your monitors needs to be displayport or you'll need a displayport/hdmi adapter.
but since you didn't list the dell model, can't say if it'll work for your laptop.

edit:
this one may actually work better for you, but again, check model specs:

I no longer have the dell latitude I had docked.

I have a Lenovo 2-1 now

HDMI adaptors are notoriously unreliable. I don't know why, but they are. It's always better to get a machine with real hdmi ports if you need them.

I would like duel hdmi output like this, I guess it doesn’t have too as all my monitors have display ports but isn’t hdmi better graphical output than display port?

I just don’t want lag like I’m getting now with the adapter.

I’m starting to think I need to build a damn desktop.

I wanted a small laptop to carry that’s why I got a 13” 2-1 style but none have duel hdmi out , they all just have usb 3.0

I got a decently powerful laptop so I could carry it and dock it like my old one. But damn.

It’s the new gen i7 processed, 12g ram and 256 ssd

I have a drive reader I slam drives into so on board storage didn’t need to be huge. Tb desktop hard drives are cheap

as another said, adapters can be flaky. it could also be due to your hdmi cable or combo of both.
from the setup you stated you had, you'll need a docking station.
the type of docking station you get depends on the type of ports you have on your laptop. obviously mfg suggested docks is the safest option, but you can likely find third party docks with similar specs for lower prices.

Have you tried DVI instead? It's just for a "dual" monitor right?

Yes, but i want to know if anyone is using these 3.0 usb docking stations to run duel monitors and if there is any flackyness there too.

I guess I need to google some reviews or possibly some tech sites.

I don’t want to go lay down 200.00 on a dock and have it do the same shiz.

I’d rather put that money towards parts for a desktop build I have some towers in the attic I can use(assuming they work with today’s components,it’s been a long long time since I’ve built a desktop.

i don't deal with lenovo's, so can't give you any feedback on their docks.

but i will say this much. if you do get a dock and it does the same thing with the audio sync, then the issue is likely either your playback software or video driver or the hdmi cables. i've seen some weirdness with older hdmi cables, so make sure the cables are up to spec.

It’s weird to me that it would be the playback editing software. Since I move the window back to the laptop screen and it is in sync again.

I’ll play something else on the bigger screen and see, like a you tube vid. But it could be since I’m editing the transfer is slow through the adapter and screen which is what I am thinking , and hoping to hell it doesn’t happen with the doc too which for all intents and purposes is a big ass adapter since the laptop doesn’t physically plug into it like the old style.

It’s better transfer quality isn’t it?

I’m editing 25+ mp photos and 4K video

No, its the same quality.

Do you have a video card on the laptop? If not, you won't be able to edit 4k video with it unless you downsample to work with file first.

I’ve already edited 4K video on it from my go pro on lightworks, that’s the software I use

Hmm... maybe they're a lower bitrate. I have an 8th gen i7 with 16 GB of DDR4 on mine and have downsample to do any editing of 4k.

How many frames per second are you recording in?

I shout 24fps for a more cinematic look, like movies are shot.

If you are shooting at a higher frame rate than this will tax the system more.

I haven’t tried 120 or 240 FPS yet but I plan too for some slow motion footage. I guess I’ll find out then.

For storage space I would probably shoot 1080p at 240 anyway

It's not really frames per second that matter, it's the bitrate that matters.

Does the Go Pro have a variable aperture so you can shoot the shutter at 1/50 s to get the 180 degree phase when shooting at 24 fps?

In protune on the newer go pros you can go in and set it like a dslr

I have don’t most of my video shooting with my old ancient first gen go pro or my dslr. I’ve only used my new go pro twice so far but you can adjust those settings and also turn off the fish eye look(shrinks the sensor to get the corners cut out)
