New gun laws in Georgia

The last two provisions are dumb. Why no fingerprinting or DB of owners? It would make it a lot easier to track stolen guns and I don't really see how it harms lawful gun owners. The rest of the stuff is somewhat silly posturing. People can bring concealed weapons wherever they like, they're concealed. Unless you're making them pass through a metal detector it's a law with no teeth. As much as I dislike guns and the excessive love of guns displayed by many on the right I'm not naive enough to think gun free zones do anything useful.

yeah it seems like #7 would create more problems than its worth

Sure as shit hasn't created any problems in Vermont, Alaska, Wyoming, Arkansas, Arizona and Oklahoma, where do you NOT only get fingerprinted, you do NOT need a fucking license at all. Anyone and EVERYONE over the age of 21 and does not have a criminal record can carry concealed pretty much everywhere.

It's only a matter of time until other states like Utah and Nevada pass constitutional carry also.

I don't see a problem with any of them.

Here in PA we can carry literally everywhere but federal buildings and K-12 schools and we only get fingerprinted when we 1st apply for a carry permit, renewal doesn't require any fingerprinting.

Gun violence outside of Philadelphia and inner-city Allentown is almost nonexistent. Go figure.

If someone in your church notices that you're carrying a gun then you're not doing a good enough job of concealing it.

The point is until this new law the only people who actually brought guns to church were the bad guys. Now the good guys can carry without breaking the law.

Really? I've had my Oklahoma CCL for just about a year. Nothing I can find on the State's website indicates that I don't need a license to concealed carry.

Good news, though mot sure on the Bars and school situtation.

The best one out of the new laws.:D

6) No database of gun owners

The law will prevent the state of Georgia from creating and maintaining a database of licensed owners.

whoops. Pretty self explanatory here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitutional_Carry

Oklahoma (residents of constitutional carry states)

In the state of Oklahoma, any person who is a legal resident of a state that allows concealed carry without a permit may also carry concealed in Oklahoma without a permit, so long as they possess a photo ID showing they are a legal resident of that other state and also meet the legal requirements for permitless carry in that other state.[6]

Why have a database of gun owners? Can they guarantee it's protected from FOIA requests?

I think you misunderstood. A couple posters here seemed to have a problem with #6 & 7 so I was asking what the problems with those provisions of the law are in their mind.

I agree with everything on the list and think this is fantastic news.

As for so-called "databases"; although we have an actual amendment to the PA State Constitution prohibiting anyone from creating a registry, the state police keeps one any way and gets away with it by insisting that your gun doesn't have to be on the list for it to be legal, hence it's not technically a "registry". The problem is cops don't care and regularly confiscate personal firearms that are lawfully owned but aren't on the list.

I am adamantly against any type of firearm or firearm owners database.
