New Corvette

Even tho I’m an old school GM guy I’ve never liked Vettes.. don’t like this one either. I respect the tech that goes into them tho. GM’s performance division is the best in the world at what they do when they want to be, and they have the hardware to back it up.
I prefer personally Camaro’s, Duramax’s and Tahoe’s but that’s just me.

Weird tidbit, I came home from the hospital in my moms corvette.

I’ve never owned one myself, but over 50% of the girls I’ve dated in my life’s fathers had corvette’s and they would drive them often.

I’ve always seen corvettes as a woman’s , car. Probably because my mom had one and me and my dad had heavily modified other cars and trucks.

As long as they keep that obnoxious hipster dude out of the commercials for it.

It didn’t used to be, they have brought it back and moved it’s place in the line up, much like that have done with the z-28 nomenclature over the years from top to mid etc
Thanks man. I had no idea.

Not a coupe like I’d like.

The one I’d want, that is the closest to the vette(and the 360 I’ve always wanted anyway) from that site is 115+k

So, this isn’t the highest model, what the big deal about it being 60k?

My local dealer has a red grand sport 2019, new he’d let me have for 59k out the door with tt+l??

I just called him to see what he had in stock and what he could do for around that.

I’ve bought three trucks and two tahoes from him though.

Wait for the reviews to see how many corners Chevy cut to roll this thing off the line that cheap.

Probably none. There is a lot of markup involved the bill of materials is not that high (relatively speaking).

Hmm, buy one for 60, put 25 in it in turbos and shit, or buy a low mile 360 like I want.

This thing is a steal, looks sick, and the best part is that you get a supercar that you can actually have serviced at a GM dealer without having to take a loan out when you need brakes.

In this day and age, seems odd to try to make a performance car with a combustion engine over an electric one.

That's not corner cutting. They don't use those materials because they are cheap, they use them because the physical properties they have.

Pretty antiquated way to make a car body. Back in the 50's and 60's metal stamping/shaping was still pretty difficult to do if you wanted a lot of seamless transitions and radial curves while keeping a car lightweight. That hasn't been an issue for a long time now. Something like aluminum/carbon fiber would be both stronger and lighter than fiberglass body panels.

Corvettes are made largely of sheet-molding-compound—which is pressed in a mold much like a waffle iron. It cures in the heated mold in minutes, not hours. This means only one mold for every component, and identical parts tat are easy to attach to each other. The molds a little more expensive, but the more rapid cycle time more than makes up for the cost.

It's a cheaper process done with an inferior material....so yes, Chevy cuts some corners.

Wait closer to release day if you want a deal on a C7. Prices are going to crater as dealers and owners try to unload these cars to make room for the C8. It's gonna be insane- brand new 2019 Stingrays for the price of a Ford Explorer.

360's seem like a no-brainer value buy right now. The prices won't get any lower so you're pretty much guaranteed not to lose money if you sell it a few years from now. The Vette on the other hand will see steep depreciation. But that's only if you care about resale value rather than driving the piss out of the cars you buy. Their buyers would howl in protest if this was switched to EV. They probably have plans for hybrid versions to make the transition easier. But getting this performance with EV at this price range is impossible. And yes, the Model S can beat this car on the drag strip- but it'd get stomped in any race track.

And nobody wants a silent Vette. This chassis was built around their V8. There's no point in development if it didn't have it.

1/4 or 1/8 mile..?

Last I saw those electric cars struggled on the 1/4 strips which is the standard.. in any event, I’m sure it wouldn’t take much work to make the Vette beastly at the strip.. tho the Vette isn’t really built for that, it’s really designed for track stuff..

I'd never buy one but I'm glad they keep making them.... along with Camaros. The fact that GM is willing to continue producing RWD pony/sports cars in spite of only selling 50-60,000 of them every year is good news. Especially after seeing them kill off their sedans.

An engineer at my company bought a 2017 Vette new and was throwing around the idea of maybe buying the new one.

Also, I heard they're going to do an overhaul of the Camaro after 2023 when the current design is slated to end. Although there's also the rumor that they might just stop making them. Fuck I hope not, I plan on buying a brand new one in a few years. Hope I don't have to do that by 2023.
