Why do you say that? It would cheapen the fight between Khabib & GSP. Goat 2 division champ going for #3 vs GOAT LW going for 30-0 as well as going for his 4th record breaking LW title defence.

Whether Khabib or GSP wins the belt gets vacated so it doesn't matter if it is vacated before or after. The next champion will have to win and defend to truly be looked at as champion.

Lastly there is one final outside possibility. If/when GSP wins I could see him defending the LW title against Conor should he win against Poirier. Pulling the belt now and making Conor vs Dustin a title fight doesn't sell anymore PPVs and it reduces the sales of Khabib vs GSP as well as killing the potential GSP vs Conor PPV.

I dont see ether Khabib or GSP fighting again after said match, and that alone would create the same damn vortex that happened at MW with gsp.

Khabib and GSP would definitely be up for a catchweight or ww as they both would like to avoid cutting to 155 at this point.


And you avoid the confusion and further diminishment of the standards and back order by just having another legitimate 155 LB champion.

What vortex? GSP vacated MW after 31 days. He didn't hold on to the title for years like Conor did at both FW & LW.

Whittaker was the Interim champ and was promoted to undisputed. No vortex there.
Pulling the title from Khabib before a fight with GSP only serves to hand the title or at least a title shot to McGregor who is much more likely to hold up the division and in fact less likely to defend it then GSP IMO.

I agree that Khabib and GSP are not likely to fight after that potential match up but I could see GSP being open to 1 fight and that would be Conor. It would be a huge paycheck again and the chance to smash the most well known MMA fighter would certainly add to his legacy.

Like you stated before, vortex as in Whittaker wasent regarded as the legitimate champion by many. This win the belt and retire bs is always a bad idea. it diminishes the standards by taking the moment away from someone else.

GSP is the GOAT, and Khabib already beaten everybody else. Not only GSP is a big win for Khabib, but it's the only fight to make.
IDGAF about Khabib beating an overmatched Conor or Gaethje again. I already saw how it played out.

The point is GSP's not an active fighter anywhere near his prime, so a win over him doesn't mean anything near as much as it would 6-7 years ago.

Beating Usman would be a million times more impressive right now than beating GSP, who is out of his prime and doesn't train to fight.

khabib not so much. wants nothing to do with fighting closer to his natural weight,
feels he needs to win the fight in the sauna.

i think he would do fine at 170 till he got to the top. usman, colby, edwards, burns all give him problems,
maybe he could beat them all. too bad he doesnt want to find out.

no one will ever know how good he really is

Who else is left for Khabib to really fight? He already whooped Conor, Gaethje, and Poirier. Ferguson is clearly on the decline now, Hooker got beat by Poirier. RDA is another one he already beat.

GSP may be 40, but he won't be as worn down as a guy who'd been fighting constantly the last 7 years.

Once an Interim champ defends they are the champ. GSP won the MW title but decided he didn't want to stay at MW.

GSP vs Khabib will be the last fight by Khabib if he does come back so the LW title will be vacated anyway.

For me the simple way to legitimise the next champ is a tournament. If Whittaker had not been Interim Champion they could have had an amazing MW tourney. Had Hendo beaten Bisping they could have also done a MW tourney.

Imagine if they did Khabib vs GSP and either way both retire:

LW tourney
Gathje
Poirier
Mcgregor
Ferguson
Oliveira
Hooker
RDA
Felder

Throw another 4 in Alternate matchups and you have a great tourney that can last over several PPVs or ESPN shows. I know it won't happen but I would love to see it.
