Nevada commission issues UFC vet Wanderlei Silva 3-year suspension

"Silva’s suspension is retroactive to the date of his evasion, May 24, 2014, meaning he is eligible to apply for a license on May 25, 2017. He is also required to provide a clean drug test upon applying for a new license."

So it looks like he won't be fighting in Bellator anytime soon. Rizin it is then!

He's lucky that's all they gave him. Can't have people running from tests like he did. You should get an automatic 5 years for that.

didn't sign him but wanted to he's attending the fan fest for Royce Shamrock 3

Don't worry guys, if he sends his kids to school in Monaco and reopens his business in Antigua he can still sign with Bellator and fight in Rizin. This is a realistic thing I think can happen that I am actively excited for.

Well with the fact that they had no problems with Shlemenko fighting in Russia we now know that these bans are not worldwide but just for North America

He really has a lot of options right now

Road FC, ONE FC, RIZIN, KSW?

I hope the athletic commisions keep banning people for life so that we get to see more top fighters from north America head over to Asia

It's always been known that US AC bans don't matter overseas. It was also the CSAC who dealt with Storm and Bellator (which is still a weird situation to me).

He shouldn't have gotten more than two years... they are so damn inconsistent with this shit. He wasn't event a licensed fighter at this time.

Good.

That's what you get for threatening Conor McGregor. Know your role.

isn't fighting over seas pretty much asking to not be allowed to fight in the U.S. again? Not that he would want to but I don't think the ACs like fighters exploiting loop holes like fighting over seas during suspensions

They wouldn't like it, but they can't do anything about that really

I will be STUNNED if Wanderlei doesn't fight somewhere by the end of 2016.

He should have submitted fake piss.
He would have only gotten a year suspension for that.

The commissions don't look kindly at fighting outside their jurisdiction and a reinstatement isn't guaranteed if he tries to circumvent.

What they need to do is make the ban 3 years with no fights. So if after 2 years you fight in Russia or Japan the 3 year clock restarts. Cheaters should not get rewarded for skipping out on their punishment.

It means something if the promotion ever hopes to put on an event in the US. That's the reason why PRIDE didn't sign Josh Barnett immediately when he was suspended for pissing hot for steroids following his win over Randy Couture so long ago in the UFC. He was stripped of the title and suspended by the NSAC and PRIDE was eager to snap him up.

The NSAC said that they better back off of that if they hope to put on an event in Las Vegas. Guess what? PRIDE backed off until his suspension was over.

Now if none of these promotions plan to hold any events in the US, they would have no problem.

Who cares if he was licensed he ran from the test. Do you really want fighters being able to use and have cheap excuses like that? I never really understood this argument. The ban was to long though it was ridiculous. Three years I think is perfect it's long enough to make anyone think twice about running. Better to just fail the test.
