Net Neutrality is dead, FCC voted to kill it.

So what problem did net neutrality solve? And how do you know that it solved it?

The law has been in effect for a little over two years. Can you share how it has helped you? Are you paying less or getting better service or both?

Read the thread.

Asked and answered.

Is there any aspect of your life you don't want perfect strangers in charge of?

Elected government officials are perfect strangers but greedy corporate mountebanks who are willing to sell their own mums for a buck are your best friend?

What kind of retard logic is this?

Are we talking about ANY of that shit in this Net Neutrality thread? Am I supposed to just follow you down any stupid ass rabbit hole because you're to much of a mouthbreather to post on topic? You could have gracefully bowed out ages ago, but now you're just panic wrestling.
Just mention anything you don't think the gov't should be in charge of and we're done. It's down to the goddamn internet ffs.

Net Neutrality codifies the status quo prior to its enaction into law, it's not a regulation in that it doesn't change anything. It's simply the principle that all traffic on the internet should be treated the same, as bits and bytes instead of usage categories like "video" or "voice". It stops service providers from charging based on those usage categories, prioritizing certain sites over others, or blocking legal traffic based on geographical origin point.

This is the internet as we have always used it, versus what the ISPs want to do to continue to monetize bandwidth instead of expanding infrastructure like we paid them to do in 1996.

No, not even close. I don't have to shop with a corporation ever again in my life, and if the rest of you agreed and had any backbone at all, they'd be out of business this year. Don't bitch at me cause you don't have a spine.

Telling the ISPs they have to keep the internet the way it was is not the government being "in charge" of it. Is the government telling bread companies they can't make loaves out of sawdust also the government being "in charge" of food?

Let it go.

Uh, yeah. We didn't need the gov't to jump in and say that bread companies not make loaves of bread from saw dust. Nobody is going to buy it and they'd be out of business. What the hell drugs are you taking? Fucking democrats literally thing the government should be in charge of every single thing. Can you just get the fuck out of my face ever?

And @nostradumbass, it's especially amusing that you seem to see it unsafe to trust the internet to "perfect strangers" in our elected government when the board members of these ISPs are perfect strangers to you as well. The only difference is that they have a vested interest in fucking my wallet in the ass while I can at least elect the government. Lmao, you're putting your faith in this fantasy that these companies give a shit about quality of service in their immensely lobbied and anticompetitive monopoly. We tried paying them off with the Telecommunications Act of 1996 and they shirked their duties then as well. But you wanna trust them lmfao.
Who the hell are you electing that you think cares about your stupid wallet? I said they're forced to care because that's how they make money, as opposed to politicians who literally force your money from you at gun point. How about I don't trust anybody, and I get to pick the people I do business with? Can we do that?

So if all the ISPs band together and start acting like zhitheads your answer is what? Dont use the Internet? If all the milk corporations start charging 50$ for a gallon of milk ole' nostradumbass would stop drinking milk? Thats your solution?

{<huh}

It appears you havent thought this through.

I'm sorry you get touchy when called out when you're wrong. But you're wrong again. Sawdust in bread as filler was REALLY a thing. Sorry, that was kinda a trap and you fell for it.

And it is in food again now. Because industry capture.

I chose it as an example because it shows that no, corporations absolutely will fuck with the products you buy from them if not regulated. Sorry, history just shows your faith in them is horrifically misplaced.

And again, how is telling corporations that they can't do stupid shit being "in charge" of that industry?

If you have one ISP in your city, then I guess you'll just be Grizzly Adams.

Grow a beard lmao.

When corporations can conglomerate to such an absurd degree as to essentially have monopoly on internet and communications, while lobbying lawmakers to systematically loosen regulations, shouldn't the government come it at this point? Did we not already learn our lesson with AT&T?

The root problem is monopolization of the ISP industry.

And you know a great wait to hurt new ISPs from entering the market?

By forcing them to be able to fully stream 4K/2K videos (and in the future who knows, maybe 8K, 16K, etc.) without toggling. Net neutrality also hurts small ISPs by having to hire compliance agents and lawyers to ensure they comply with regulations.

Serving HTML pages and 720p videos is infinitely less taxing than serving 4K/2K videos at peak hours.

The problem is there are literally millions of Americans who have only one option for an ISP. They don't get a choice. So if were being completely fair, yes a bread company could make as much sawdust bread as they want, and you'd either buy it or starve because there is no competition.

I'm sure the figure has changed but around 2012 or so it would of only cost 6 billion to lay fiber and give every single household in the US 40 gigabytes down and 40 gigabytes upload speed.

This shit they keep trying to pass is just a racket to squeeze more money out of people, but sure let the companies have at it, what could go wrong when competitors can cut off or limit access, paywalls get added to every website because the isp's are shaking them down too, and every domain you go to gives ya an option to buy a 1 day 1 week or 1 month boost otherwise your pages are loading at dial-up speeds.

I don't think your very knowledgeable in this subject, and are just toeing some party line.

This is stupidly pointless and I don't know why you keep spamming it.

No one is requiring that ISPs be "forced" to be able to stream 4K videos. They just have to live up to their product as sold. If I'm sold 60Mbps internet service, which is plenty for 4K, then I should be able to use 4K and whatever else I feel like at 60Mbps.

This is the whole point. They can't advertise one thing and then not actually offer it.

If they're having trouble because now more people are actually using the services they pay for, well boo hoo I don't GAF.

If you really wanted to cure monopolization of the ISP industry, bring back local loop unbundling and force Verizon and Comcast and the rest to follow through on the fiber buildouts they were given BILLIONS of dollars for and never completed.

Who are the biggest internet corporations? Is there a single one who's against net neutrality? Why would that be, do you think?
