Net Neutrality is dead, FCC voted to kill it.

I didn't say that. I said they don't set their prices for plans based on exact bandwidth usage, but rather expected bandwidth usage.

Even though in many cases they do set their prices based on bandwidth usage (like 200MB/s vs 100MB/s vs 50MB/s, etc.)

i don't know what ISP shillhole you came out of but all of your posts are giving me AIDS

So presenting the other side of the argument is 'shilling' and gives you 'AIDS'? I've looked at both sides and while I agree with some of the points for net neutrality, I think it simply doesn't add much, gives government control of telling you what is 'fair' or not (see China and North Korea) and makes the barrier of entry bigger for smaller ISPs.

Take a second to watch this video and see if this better explains why this will not benefit you or anyone. The segment ends at 5:45.

I understand the points for it. If we could get net neutrality without getting the American government involved and without hurting small ISPs then I would be all for it.

Ultimately though I feel like it creates an additional barrier of entry to a sector that is already plagued with a big one. And the root cause of all the issues that net neutrality wants to fix is monopolistic practices. So it is actually exacerbating the problem in my eyes.

Also the government gets involved in determining what is 'fair' or 'unfair'. And we have seen how government intervention in the Internet can turn out (China, North Korea).

So I like to provide the opposite side, rather than saying shit like "how could anyone oppose it" or "it's a no brainer".

Only so much data can be transmitted through a cable at one time. How can you even deny this? Their pricing structure doesn't have to correlate with usage, much like an all you can eat restaurant doesn't price their food by how much you eat. They look at the average cost of a user and set their price much higher.

Yea, so at an all you can eat buffet, food is cheap and plentiful enough that if a bunch of fat people walk into the restaurant, it doesn't affect the place's ability to provide food to everyone else. Otherwise they would either have to get more food, or be forced to change their pricing model.. just like the ISPs.

So far ISPs have went the route of increasing bandwidth, but if bandwidth was such a problem that they decided to change their pricing model, that would be fine too. Either way there's no excuse for them to go after net neutrality.

we don't have net neutrality in Belgium (or most of Europe), as far as i know. i wonder if i'm missing out on anything.

Do you need the US government to go into grocery stores and tell them they must sell apples? No, because if a grocery store stopped selling apples people would just go to another.

Unless they all decide to start charging 20$ for apples and no one has any other alternative to buy cheaper apples unless they move to another country...derp

errr......what?

but yea ts, this is F'ing bad.
The funny part is, if his tweets are to be taken seriously he arguably gets close to supporting the fairness doctrine with this one:

Internet should be declared a utility like electricity or water and put net neutrality into law.

Lefties have been to busy screaming literal Hitler at everything trump does, now a serious issue has arisen and it will go unbattled. Classic boy who cried wolf.

Oh shut the hell up, leftists this, leftists that.

Leftists didn't vote Trump into office, make Ajit Pai FCC commissioner, or sell out the American people to telecom entities for money. Leftists didn't forward and indulge in "government takeover of the internet" propaganda. Leftists have been giving a shit about internet legislation since SOPA, PIPA, and CISPA. Give me a fucking break.

We don't have net neutrality in Oz, but then we don't have the sort of vertical integration that exists in the US.
No '90s AOL style restricted access ever existed here (unless you were stupid enough to run one of those "free internet" disks that came bundled with some things and pay international call rates for dial up internet).
