Looking for some sci-fi movie recommendations. My girlfriend is literally in the operating room having surgery as I am typing this and this will be a lazy movie watching weekend. Before anyone asks, yes she enjoys sci-fi movies a lot.

Any sci-fi movie you have seen that you enjoyed, please list it here. I don't care how old it is, one of my all time favorites is Close Encounters of the Third Kind, however I do prefer color as my gf isn't a fan of black and white movies.

Some of the ones we enjoyed were Sphere, Prometheus, The Arrival, District 9 (one of my all time favs) and Chappie.

Any recommendations for a post-surgery movie fest would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Sherbros.

Arrival. Thoughtful, slow. No action shooting and dramatic shouting.

Contact. You know it.

Also, consider Star Trek the Slow Motion Picture.
It is slow, but deceptively deep.
No shooting or shouting.

Moon
Inception
Blade Runner (both original andand sequel)
Annihilation
Mad Max series
The Thing (original)
Children of Men

Predestination
Moon
Demon Seed
Logan's Run
Ex Machina

Inception

Mad Max series

Children of Men
Mad Max films aren't scifi so much as post apocalyptic chasers.

Hard to say which Blade Runner I love more

I really think that the BR sequel did a great job of recreating the ambiance and feel of the original. I am beyond pumped for his new Dune film!!

Some great recommendations so far !!! Some of them I've already seen, but I wasn't going to ask people to go through my list of thousands of movies to see if I'd already seen it.

Keep em coming Sherbros !!!

Ghost in the Shell (Anime version obv)
Akira

I am Mother was much better than I expected.
It takes place in the future where a girl is being raised by a robot. Just avoid the trailer because it is full of spoilers. Think of it as a sci-fi suspense.

It's at 90% on Rotton Tomatoes and has a 6.8/10 on imdb.

Dune is dear to my heart, and book adaptations make sacrifices for a tight screenplay, so I'm cautiously optimistic. Would have loved to see Jodorowski's interpretation.

BR 2049 is a goddamned masterpiece.

Jodorwowski is such a loon, I love him.

I'm not sure his movie would have been true to the books either...lol

El Topo and Holy Mountain and so freaking great. I mean, they are crazy but great.

I showed my wife the trailer for Holy Mountain and she read the plot sysnopis and now she really wants to see it. Especially because she loves the weird Purtian / Witch Hunter fashion style

You like Prometheus? I thought that movie was garbage.

I recommend the Expanse. It’s a show, but it’s really good.

Coherence, Cube trilogy, Pandorum, Equilibrium, Equals, Gattaca, The Signal, The Mist, Sunshine, Cloverfield, Cargo, The Thirteenth Floor, Triangle, Dark Skies, Project Almanac, Cabin in the woods,
More philosophical than literal: Upstream Colour, Perfect Sense
TV: Battlestar Galactica, Farscape, The Expanse, Torchwood

His vision would have been an acid nightmare full of experimental editing. But crazy enough to watch out of curiosity. Who did he want David Bowie to portray, I forget?

I'm not a fan of his films, they're a little too unstructured for my tastes.

Prometheus does what it sets out to accomplish well, until the parts that are bad.
Worth a watch because it's beautiful.
