A lot of Canadians like to think racism is minimal. But that type of delusion has allowed racism grow. Pretending that it doesn't exist doesn't make it go away. Although the Toronto area has become quite diverse over the past few decades, there are plenty of recent examples that show racism has persisted.

Here is a team of police officers fatally shooting a 62 year old Pakistani man inside his own apartment.

Here is a guy going off on a ridiculous racist tirade because he was asked to wear a mask inside a Toronto supermarket. Here are some racist altercations in public complete with death threats

I’m in agreement with you on those individual cases of racism. No doubt about it. That being said, we’re really gonna play the anecdotal outlier game? I guess I’ll play too.

In a country of 330 million people, there are going to be a few bad apples. However, contrary to what NYT, CNN, MSNBC will tell you, racism and violent crime can flow in any direction. We need to denounce violent crime, no matter the race. This would be true equality.

Racist attacks against Asians have increased during the pandemic.

Furthermore, there is institutionalized racism in the education system, government, unions, etc.

A common myth that many Canadians believe is that a lot of objectionable things, that happen in the USA, don't happen in Canada.

Anti-mask rallies

Anti-vaxxers

A 73 year old was asked to wear a mask upon entering a supermarket, he responded by assaulting an elderly employee, damaging the exterior of the store with his vehicle, then fleeing the scene as the police took chase. The police followed him to his residence where they fatally shot him. Florida man? No. Ontario man.

Police have continued to use knee-on-neck restraints, even against people that aren't under arrest.

i never said racism doesn't exist, only that relative to any other NBA city, Toronto would be the least

Toronto is the most multicultural city in the world according to the UN, and a very liberal and progressive city (to it's detriment).

Cherry picking incidents in a huge city doesn't prove your point.

I’ve been to Toronto a couple times. Easily one of the best cities in North America, despite the liberal politics. The vast majority of people there are nice and normal. I agree. Cherry-picking anecdotes that aren’t representative of the norm is a silly exercise.

Went to CANada for a wedding. They’re way nicer and polite than people here in the USA. They’re so nice that they don’t even do friendly smack talking.

Then let's look at data that measures the city as a whole.

"Between 2013 and 2017, a Black person in Toronto was nearly 20 times more likely than a White person to be involved in a fatal shooting by the Toronto Police Service (TPS)."

http://www.ohrc.on.ca/en/public-int...ial-profiling-and-racial-discrimination-black

Across all US metro areas, Black people were 3.23 times more likely to be killed by police compared to White people from 2013 to 2017 (Latinx people were 1.05 times more likely than White people).

Chicago had the highest disparity for Black people (6.51 times more likely). Atlanta had the lowest disparity (1.81 times more likely). No US city comes anywhere close to Toronto's 20X disparity.

What a fucking clown
Apparently this lady was tasked with laying out the cold hard facts and figures involving a decision to cancel the season and this interfered with Beverley's precious emotions lol

I'll wait to see if his non-teammates dispute it, specifically the other guys named (CP3, Haslem)

having a plan is too much to ask these days?
The NBA has had an approved bubble plan since June 4th

Unless you're referring to a plan on how to cope with a random :eek::eek::eek: rapist playing stupid games and winning stupid prizes lmao

Pretty sure you can read Sham's tweet.

If the issue is whether players will get still get paid in event of boycott (because of course money was the issue let's be real), then precedent was set back in July when the NBA decided that as per collectively bargained restart rules, Oladipo couldn't opt out with pay for non-injury reasons
