"No one ever says what people get busted for when they test positive for steroids," Diaz said. "But when Nick got busted, ‘what did Nick Diaz get suspended for? Cannabis.’ How come we all know that? How come it never goes away? How come it’s repeatedly talked about?"

"But when certain fighters start popping for steroids, they’re like ‘he tested positive for a banned substance. What banned substance? We don’t know.’"

"Silva, when he f----ng (said) he (was) taking Viagra or some sh-t. So any time we want to say that we didn’t do steroids, we say we’re popping Viagra? I ain’t buying it."

Diaz also maintains that he is clean from any other substance, except for cannabis. But he did also say that he may be open to PED use in the future.

"You can test me every day of the year," Diaz challenged. "Piss loaded with cannabis, no steroids. You ain’t gonna catch no steroids in me for the rest of my life."

"I can’t say that, maybe (when) I’m 60 and don’t work no more, (I'll) just take a steroid."

Nate's right though, about all that. People associate Nick's name to this day with THC. But who remembers the guys that have popped for steroids in years past? That gets forgotten about. That is the truth and it's pretty fucked up when you think about it.

But what Nate's not seeing is that Nick popping for THC in the Gomi fight started a whole cultural argument about whether or not THC is a performance enhancer or not. And it happened at a time when legalization was a big argument in most states. Nick just ended up being the mma poster child for THC because of the timing and the high profile nature of that fight, and what Nick did in that fight. And it being ruled a no contest. That's why people still remember that and associate Nick's name with weed to this day.

Shields later said he failed for a diuretic to cut weight at a NSAC commission hearing when they questioned him about his suspension of 6 months from either Colorado or Utah....one of those all white states out that way.


However, I'd just like to say that it was HIGHLY suspicious that Shields would need a diuretic for weight cutting for that fight since it was at 185, and even HIGHERILY suspicious because his next fight after that suspension was at 170. I don't see how you could be so big that you'd need a diuretic to cut weight to make 185, then several months later you don't need any type of outside assistance to fight 15 lbs lighter. I just think it's more likely that he needed steroids to add muscle mass to be able to fight without a huge size disadvantage at 185 then he had to get off them so he dropped some muscle mass and was able to fight at 170 again.

People just have bullshit standards in terms of who they crucify and who they don't. For instance, cerrone is pretty widely liked on this board and doesn't really get much shit at all about failing for diuretics, while Thiago alves (who, to be fair, is well enough liked) is accused of masking his steroid use for failing for a diuretic when the topic is brought up. Mir gets virtually no shit for failing or for TRT but vitor certainly does (hendo occasionally does for the TRT as well, but not too much that I've seen). I haven't even begun to talk about jones and silva either. It's so weird.
