I see a lot of similarities, minus that Conor moved up and Gomi didn't.

- Both Conor and Gomi (at the time) were considered the best of their division

- Both fought a bigger opponent

- Both hurt Diaz with punches and busted them up really good

- Both gassed in the 2nd

- Both got hurt by Diaz punches

- Both shoot for a TD and ended up being submitted

It's like Nate was destined to have a career defining moment exactly like his brother.

Now let's see if it goes even further if Nate fails the drug test!

Somewhat close but not THAT close...

Gomi hurt Nick badly breaking his orbital, Conor didn't ever hurt Nate.

I think Gomi obviously gassed(helped by the punishment Nick landed) where as I don't think Conor did, he was rocked.

Gomi might not have moved up but Nick had a MUCH bigger reach advantage where as Conor and Nate were pretty close. It was more a case of Conor losing his typical reach advantage.

Plus of course with Gomi I think the signs were already there than he was in decline with the loss and less than impressive rematch with Maximus.

Yes, good comparison.

One thing i didn't like about the Gomi fight was when he looked at the ref and pointed to Nicks cut, that was a pussy move.

Gomi had ended his unbeaten streak at that point and was looking worse with each fight he wasn't really the machine he had been during his Bushido run. Plus Conor didn't gas Nate had started to find his range and was teeing off on him hurting him more and more.

Conor did gas. No matter what the reasons are but he did.
