My Windows Updated And Wiped Out My Bookmarks

Micr
Microsoft Edge is what I'm using.

Do you have a system restore point set prior to the update, that may work? Then you can at least find a way to back them up to an external file before updating again. The bookmarks are likely still there, just buried in a folder in Program Data or Program Files (x86 or plain). I'd look up how to find them and migrate them. A few times I lost Firefox bookmarks in the past, but I covered them through files buried in a folder, Edge likely has something similar in terms of a backup in one of those spots.

I believe it was Windows 10 that had a Windows Update wipe out all contents of people's MyDocuments or something similar.

Something, something, always backup your important files and documents.

I found out the hard way many years ago. An external HDD
Bit the dust and some of the files were not saved anywhere else.

The nerds have a 3-2-1 rule.

Well I just all my bookmarks and apps back so everything is good again, how this happened I don't know but I'm not complaining.

Since you called them bookmarks and not favorites, I assume you’re using Chrome.

But Windows updates never overwrite anything in %userprofile%\AppData, so they’re probably still there.

Maybe you just need to go into Chrome’s settings and enable to option to show the bookmarks bar.

They are called favorites.

They are called favorites.
Then it’s Edge. Either way, those are still stored in AppData.
Being that Edge is a Microsoft browser, I can’t guarantee that they don’t overwrite stuff in that folder, but I’m pretty sure they don’t.

So, none of the favorites are there when you go into favorites in the browser? I have never seen that happen.
Or is it that you sign into Edge, and they’re stored in Microsoft’s cloud service, and you just need to sign into the browser to view them?

Without reading the whole thread, I'd guess it was an issue of the browser not logging in or syncing.

I was just forced to update from windows 8.1 to windows 11. I hate windows 11. I declined a bunch of privacy options during the upgrade, and now it keeps trying to get me to finish the install everytime i need to do a reboot. I finished the install, i just declined to let them collect any data without my consent.

Will today the favorites came back along with things like DVD burning software some of apps that were on the computer when I got it.

Sometimes updates require reboots but don’t force a reboot like they should. And shit just doesn’t work right until that happens.
