Dude looked like he was fighting in quicksand. Before the fight I had read an interview of his where he talks about not training as hard as he used to, saying, "I don’t train as hard as I trained when I was 25. People would be very surprised if they saw how I train...."
At the time I was a bit taken back by the remark but just brushed it off as him being a veteran and knowing his body, but in hindsight I take it as him not training hard enough to fight 5 full rounds and preparing his body adequately. Indeed, you can over-train which is bad, but when you are competing at the highest levels of MMA you have to be well conditioned, which means training vigorously and not thinking that it is going to be easier than it potentially is. That remark has stuck w/ me all day and I should have listed to my gut and went bigger on Carl.
