First things first, my cousin is a weirdo. He'a big movie fan and has thousands of movies in his collection. He's a big fan of Steven Seagal and JCVD. He is also a magician and call pull very advanced tricks, although he never made it a professional career. He's a loud talker, he laughs really loudly and has been banned from various all-you-can-eat restaurants because he eats too much. He's also banned from the Montreal Casino because he pulled card tricks while playing Black Jack...

Now, his favorite movies are the Back to the Future trilogy. He's been addicted to these movies for years and has watched them hundreds of times. He can recite the whole script by heart and uses different voices to emphasize his rendition. Weird thing, his favorite one is BttF 2, when Marty goes to the future to fix his shattered life. There's a scene where he gets some pretty nice self-lacing shoes and that stuck with my cousin. He always wanted to get those shoes and has been talking about it for years.

Now, Nike has recently released 1500 pairs to be auctioned on Ebay for the Michael J. Fox Parkinson foundation. Needless to say, the starting bids were very high. I think the cheapest pair sold for 5k and some sold for up to 15k. My cousin was so overwhelmed by the news, he got online and started bidding as soon as it opened.

Lucky for him (or is it?), he got his pair for a whooping 6800$. That's right folks, nearly 7k for a pair of shoes that shine in the dark. Also, it's important to note that they're not even self-lacing like in the movie. They just have funny lights in the back and on the side that can be recharged by USB but that's it. There's nothing else except the fact that they're identical to the ones in BttF 2. I held them in my hands today and this is what I can honestly say:

-They're very light for such big shoes.
-They seem cheaply made.
-It looks like they would wear out in less than a year of normal usage.
-The lights look silly as they constantly flash in different colors when turned on.

Now, this thread would not be complete without a picture of my cousin. Remember, he's a weirdo and has some kind of OCD syndrome. Did I mention he's also a bodybuilder? That's right, he's a big 250lbs guy standing tall at 5'6"...

The question is, would you call him out on his crazy shoes? Would you mug him to get the shoes on Ebay and sell them for up to 10-15k?

Be honest people!

I don't know him personally but I hate him already

How old is he?

Is he natural?

He seems like a real life 80s nostalgia

...

buying 6800 dollars shoes is the least wierd thing about him actually.

Hahahahhahahahahahahaa

I have never been scared of any man that was 5'6, no matter how much muscle they have. I wouldn't mug the guy because I'm not a piece of shit. I think it's cool he got that, I would drop big cash on something that really interests me as a little gift to myself too. Whatever makes him happy.

Edit- Loyals post Haha

He looks like a lost remnant of a phase of human evolution long since eliminated by nature.

How many times does he say the word bro when speaking to him?

He's over 35. He's natural, you wouldn't believe how much he eats and the things he does to keep his muscles. He's been training since his early 20s and has been progessing slowly but surely. 5 years ago, he was weighting 220-230. It took him 5 years to reach 250 and he must work hard to maintain it. He also holds several lifting records at the Montreal Gold Gym.

Yes, he's a real life 80s nostalgic. He's a big fan of Michael Jackson, he can copy his whole Billy Jean routine and can moonwalk on command. His apartment his filled with his movies and several 80s memorabilia, most of them items from cult movies. He has several DeLorean models, many thematic game boards and last but not least, a big ass 80' TV.

I'm a huge 80s fan too, so I can relate.

But to dish out $6800 on shoes—is he wealthy at all? If so, it's probably alright if this is some life goal of his (as you mentioned, he's been talking about it for years).

If not, and he dished out half a year's worth of rent on shoes, then yeah—it was probably a pretty bad decision, and there are shoemakers who could've probably made top quality replicas for far less.

Is he planning on wearing them, or keeping them packed for collector's value?

LOOOOOOOOL, I can get a pair of UA Air Mags for like $300.

When the hype beasts drive the price up, do yourself a favor and buy a pair of reps. Ain't nobody gonna foot check you on a pair of $15,000 shoes so long as you don't buy a pair of Nekes.
