Do you order a belt with each Gi you have?

I'm Buying another Gi so I dont have to rush home so i can wash my gi and staying up late waiting to put it on the line to dry, so itll ready in the morning.
So my question is, do you guys get a new belt for each GI? I ordered another belt because I wash my belts with my gi...but concerned on peoples feelings if I start wearing a belt with no stripes or should I get my own tape and put the stripes on my new belt?. This isnt about wether stripes matter, it's about my instructor gaging my ability to the rest of his students. I wouldnt want to show up with a bare belt and get anyone confused. I also dont want to look like I 'gave myself some stripes'

If you're not too quick and couldn't figure it out on your own I'm a white belt

Most people do not wash their belts with their gis. Therefore, they only own one belt.

However, if you wanted to have two, I don't really see the problem. I bought my current blue belt because the original blue belt I was given was very cheap and flimsy. Nobody cared that I switched belts.

The belt gets just as nasty as the gi, as it is mopping up mat sweat the entire time on the mat. I hope/wish everyone is washing their belts.

My question is mostly if I bought mutiple belts, should I put the stripes on my belt myself or show up without the stripes and telling my instructor

I put the stripes on my belt myself. They do fall off after a few months, and I just put them back on again.

I don't see any problems with putting the appropriate number of stripes on your belt. If you have any concerns though, just ask your instructor.

Better to ask permission from your instructor, to avoid any unspoken rules.

Put them on yourself if you want more than one belt. It's not a big deal. It's still your belt.

Yes put the appropriate number of stripes on your new belt. They're just stripes. I've had to replace mine a couple times.

I wash my belt at least every other training session.

Just use the same belt with different gi's. I wash my belt every time with my gi.

Keep the same belt. It's bad luck to change them. Don't wash the belt. The sweat, blood and tears are a markers of everything you have earned.

absolutely wash your belt

absolutely get another belt if you need it in order to wash the other one

absolutely put stripes on both of your belts

i wash my belt with my gi, tho if im wearing it twice that day i wont wash the belt (wearing the belt twice that day, that is, not the gi, i NEVER wear my gi more than once without washing it, that is just fucked up), and sometimes i will wear my belt damp, i only have one, dont seem to need 2

I have multiple belts and multiple gis. I wash every belt I have with the gi I wore it with, every time I use it. I try to clean all the gear I train with after every use.

I started out in TMA under the "never wash your belt" philosophy and it just isn't safe from a sanitation standpoint. There may be "blood sweat and tears" in that belt but there may also be ringworm and staph.

I have 5 gi's only have one belt and have never found a need to wash it.

there are dirty people, who care little about hygiene and there are clean people, who care a lot about hygiene and the way they appear and smell

I have always been told never to wash there belt. For instance back with the samurai they never washed there belt, they had no belt colors. It turned black over time.... Black belt.

Dont wash your belt

The whole not washing your belt because you'll wash away all of your knowledge stuff is just superstition. I don't think staph and ringworm were as known of or documented back in the day as they are today, so washing it is just practicing good hygiene. You may not need to wash it every time, but I'd say at least once a week.

Ever see one of those white belts that are all yellow? So gross...

th the white belt--they get dirtier quicker

blue on up they dont show the dirt as bad--

i wash my belt once every 2 weeks

and i like to avoid grappling with those dirty people

I have 3 purple belts....mainly because I keep thinking I've lost them and go get another one. Now, I seem to have found them all.

Anybody want one? Real cheap....just take my 1 hour seminar and buy my video, pay for my car and buy me a sandwich.

why on earth would you need two belts?

i use one belt - and almost never wash it.. other than right when i get it.. to break it in a little bit.
