Muay Thai in Chicago IL.

I personally am a long time lurker on this board and stumbled across this thread. I went to a Team Oyama Muay Thai class with my friend once and it was an excellent place. I never was able to go back again due to a back injury but it is now healed and I am planning on going next week. My friend told me they had moved to a new location in Schaumburg Illinois with a much better gym. Very friendly class with very friendly instructors. Hopefully I will see one of you there.
 
ohana martial arts in grayslake has MT. good school, good instruction. im a student there, but im out for quite a while with a torn acl.

In the Chicago area you will not find better MT instruction than Team Toro. Ricardo Perez is one of Saekson Janjira's instructors, and for MT, is the best in Chicago. Without a doubt.
 
yes team toro and oyama are the 2 that i am going to get a trial class with. i have heard nothing but great things about both schools.

2 schools that I support to the fullset... Reccomend them to any body in the area looking to train. If you're close to Curran's, you'd be good to go there too. :icon_twis

newbreedchicago shares a space with ultimate fitness/evanston boxing club. newbreed offers muay thai, but i think the boxing class is way better.
 
I know a little bit about Team Toro because they were at the same tournament as i was and one of their fighters was the 145lbs TBA champion and he looked good doing it. it was the first annual TBA national championship with over 100 amateur fighters from all over the country so the competition was stiff, and he won his second match with a KO against my training partner from dubuque, heh. Good luck with finding a school!
 
That was Al Rojas. Joe O'Brien also won the HW division.

You talking about the first TBA sanctioned event thing up by you (Iowa)? If so, I know it was available on web pay-per-view (for about $24) but I didn't get a chance to sit down and order it.

Did any of you guys get it and, do you know if its still available?
 
Glenn Hudson's Muy Thai Academy in Robbins, Illinois is a great Muy Thai gym. Glenn competed in the olympics, is a former golden glover, and produces many fighters for the annual Chicago Golden Gloves competition.

Old thread resurrection, but I just stumbled across it and figured I'd update it for anyone that might come across it in the future. Absolute Martial Arts & Fitness closed a long time ago. Tim then went to teach at MTC when Alex Trujillo opened up the facility in Streamwood. That facility, as it seems and was already posted, moved to Schaumburg some time after '05. Tim was a good teacher. Serious when need be, pays attention to his students, and takes into account everyone's skill level, and what they're training for (e.g. fitness, fighter training, self defense, etc...). He was a good teacher. I trained at Absolute for a while before they closed. I can't speak much for MTC since I was at the Streamwood location for only 2 weeks before I moved away.
 
Anyone know of a Boxing Gym in SouthSide Chicago? I'm talking about a hood gym like Kronk or something like that, not just a fitness center like a LA Boxing.
 
It's a Muay Thai academy, but it also has boxing and jiu jitsu. The instructor Glenn Hudson was a Chicago Golden Glove open division winner in the late 80's, fought professionally in boxing and Muay Thai. Hence he produces boxers and Muay Thai fighters. Sorry for the confusion, but he is good for Thai boxing as well.
 
Team Toro is good but theres lots of ego's in that place. Granted its in a rich town so there's gona be spoiled brats but god damn I've never met so many kids with huge ego's before. Most gyms Ive been to usually have the mentality "check your ego at the door" this place doesn't.

If you decide to go there, be prepared for 20 jean claude van damn wanabe's.
 
anything close to the south loop/lakeside area or accessible via Metra/L?
 
In addition, there's Basham's Martial Arts with Khru Pete Farias in Manteno, IL. Their guys won some belts at the TBAs in Iowa this year. They're affiliated with Dave Rogers in Normal, IL and are certified by the founder of the TBA's Ajarn Sirusate.
