Gym/Training Muay Thai Gym Q&A

Does anyone in Phuket now or someone that has been recently know how much Twins gloves and shin pads costs? Would be looking at 12oz and 14oz gloves.

Similarly any prices for Fairtex equipment? I will be going out there soon so trying to guage how much I should budget on equipment

just buy 12s, light sparring so you shouldn't need sperate sparring gloves. What else are you planning to buy and what are you bringing from home?

Buy velcro, I made the mistake of bringing my lace up winnings, it's a major hassle. And bring your own gum shield. And a few hand wraps.

I bought 16oz and head gear with me but didn't use them once in 5 months in thailand.

Planning on not bringing anything from home apart from the mouthguard. Could do with new gear so why not. And the stuff is more for using back home than in Thailand itself in any case.

At 1800 baht for gloves it's about half of what I'd pay in the UK for Fairtex gloves so will stock up. Other than gloves and shin pads, will probably buy shorts, wraps etc

Yeah all pricing is around half of UK prices or slightly less. shorts vary quite a bit. And some gyms sell gear at inflated prices so look around. Bangkok have better prices.
when I went to phuket last year may the places i looked was not well stocked on fairtex gloves or topking shin guards. I forget the name of the shop but there's one next to jungcelon where the owner said she can order in advance and researve if you send her an email. And try to get a discount for a bulk order.

slightly off topic, but i'm used to training more at the end of my day so i'm curious as to what you guys/gals eat before a morning session. with sessions starting usually at 7 or 7:30 at most gyms with a run beforehand i just don't think i can get up any earlier than already required in order to have time for a breakfast to digest. i do fasted cardio, but a typical 2 hour session after a run would be a long time to go without eating first.

so what kind of meals/nutrition do you guys have before a morning session just after waking?

I am rarely hungry during morning session. Most of the Thai fighters train fasted in the morning too and they are fine so don't worry about losing muscle. I always have a few electrolytes before/ during every session. Eat enough in your evening meals and you'll be fine.

It depends on the person but just try fasted first, if you can't do it then small snack, some fruit.

Yeah, I rarely ate before morning run/training either. I would usually just have a small black coffee before running and maybe an electrolyte drink mid-way through the session. You can pick up Tonk-KKK electrolyte packets at tesco for 6 baht each.

ypu can buy a box of 25 at phamacies for 90-100b. Individual packets cost 5-8b.

Most electrolytes packets taste great, you can buy at 7/11 too. Don't buy OREDA, taste salty and is for diarrhea.

Tonk-KKK taste awsome, i've tried 5-6 different brands and this is my favourite.

Saengmorakot is the closest to MBK that I can think of. But it's still about 3km away, near Rajadamnern.

I don't really know the answer to any of those questions, as I've never trained there. You'll have to Google it.

I google it earlier, i did not find the answer, i will check with them when I arrive there thanks

Is there anyone that's going to train at Sinbi october - december?

Anyone know much about AKA Thailand? Can't seem to find any reviews or information online other than what's on their website.

Hello all. I am currently in Chiang Mai and interested in peoples experiences at gyms in the area, both good and bad. I would also be grateful for recommendations. I am a complete newbie to Muy Thai but, not looking for a place that caters to beginners. More that they tolerate the early struggles that accompany learning a new and difficult skill.

My friend trained at KC Muay Thai and nothing but good things to say about it. Also check out Santai Muay Thai. They fill up quick but I've heard nothing but good reviews about Santai. Also Hongthong Muay Thai is supposed to be pretty good as well.
