Gym/Training Muay Thai Gym Q&A

Hi, I've read the whole thread but I'd appreciate any input. Basically looking for 3 things, a decent muay thai gym, a normal gym (free weights) and walking distance to some cheap places to eat since I won't hire a scooter. Narrowed down my options to:

- Patong boxing gym (favorite), only real downside is the accomodation and food cost since there's basically only a few options and I've read those are pretty expensive. For free weights I'd go to Maximum, a little far but I can manage that 2x/week.

- Sinbi, with Nai Harn Gym. Not so sure about the walking distance/food stuff?

- Dragon Muay Thai, with Titan Fitness, food should be plenty here because of all the gyms in this area I think?

- Patong Stadium Gym, didn't find so much about this one, would be combined with Maximum.

Maximum for Muay Thai isn't an option because of the private cost (1500).

Any advice?

I think sinbi has free weights. Maybe the others do too.

Yeah most MT gyms say on their website that they have them but tbh I doubt that they have what I'm looking for. If anyone knows of a decent MT gym (besides Maximum) that has a powerrack/squat stands, a bench and an oly bar that would be great though.

I'm at Sinbi now and they have all if that. The training is very good right now. Lots of decent people here.

Awesome, Sinbi it is then, haven't found a single bad review about it. Is there any cheap accomodation (10-15k/month) nearby? 32k/month for training + accomodation is doable but cheaper is always nice.

And is it worth it to take privates for the 1st week to get used to the training or would that be a waste of money? Don't really like the idea of starting in a group at the very beginning.

I normally just do group training. If I'm tired, I take a session off. Don't over think it, just listen to your body.

http://www.palm-village.com has places for 15,000 baht a month. I stayed there for 8 weeks a few years ago. It was fine. It's about 5 minutes drive from the gym.

I won't hire a scooter so that's a bit far. I'll probably stay at Sinbi's or Phuket Riviera. Thanks for info mate.

Haven't been Sinbi in 3 years. But the next time i'm in Phuket, It'll be at Sinbi... LOL Tiger wasn't as bad as I thought it'll be. But so far WMC Lamai (Koh Samui) is my favourite gym/camp. Must be the location and the friends I make there, that adds to the atmosphere. :)

Im planning on going there at February!
How's the training compared to Sinbi?

I prefered it. For the week that I was in Sinbi we never sparred, partner work, did much elbows or did any clinch work. Dunno...Could have been an off week with the trainers?? :icon_neut

Also WMC is close to the beach (Walking distance 3-5min) which is a definate plus after training in my book

P.S In closing though, there is something about Sinbi that makes me want to go back lol :)

were you typically there for the morning or afternoon sessions, or both?

also, anyone down there get to witness all the changes with the beaches in phuket? Ryukyu, i think they just cleared Nai Harn recently, did you witness that?

Yeah, Nai Harn is clear of chairs now. It's pretty nice.

I was there for both sessions the first 2 days..Then I switched to morning session with the group and privates later arvo with Trainer Wang (RIP).

Like Tiger, I've learnt more doing privates than groups...which I find like a big cardio session. Samui there is more technique work with the groups and you still get pushed hard.

Does anyone here have any recent experience with PTT? I remember reading a review from not long ago saying the MT there went downhill but can't find it anymore.

Was in PTT last November for 10days. I thought it was Solid (Did the MT, Wrestling and MMA classes)

Anyone went to sitmonchai recently? I heard its a good gym to train to.
I'd like to get in fighting shape cause my club is closed these next 3 months.

Sitmonchai is pretty popular these days, and they may not have room if you are tying to go soon. It's best to give them as much advance notice as you can. I recently had to train elsewhere as they were full in July.

Does anyone in Phuket now or someone that has been recently know how much Twins gloves and shin pads costs? Would be looking at 12oz and 14oz gloves.

Similarly any prices for Fairtex equipment? I will be going out there soon so trying to guage how much I should budget on equipment
